Short Rack Mount Cases

Following from my post yesterday, I am looking for a rack mount pc case(or a small normal case). The problem comes in that my rack mount is only 30cm deep (At the moment it is only used for audio equipment). 

I would like it to accommodate a standard ATX PSU and a micro ATX motherboard. Apart from that I don't have many other requirements, I plain/clean front would be ideal.

Any help or experience you have would be well appreciated.

Only 1U cases are typically this short, for which you will need a flex-ATX PSU.

Tbh. I have never in my life seen a larger than 1U case being less than 30cm deep.

I don't see why they can't work as a micro atx board will fit in 25cm space, I guess there isn't the demand.

I think that is taking it a step to far, I guess I will either need a longer rack or a different type of case all together.

you could say do an small build and set it on a rack self.

Any ideas small build wise, I need it to take a mATX motherboard and an ATX PSU, also a full size expansion slot. Max height is about 25cm and width is about 45cm.

you're going to have a damned hard time finding a 12" deep case that supports MATX and an ATX PSU.  

 

So, since you asked:

 

mATX Board are about 9.6" Square.  

A case loses nearly 1" at the back from metal, and brackets and such.

A Case also loses over 1" at the front from panels, buttons, and fan mounts.

And this is without drive mounts and the like.

 

You're talking about having NO extra space in a build.  Is it doable?  Probably?    

It's unlikely to be a case that gets much use, and would NEVER make enough money to justify the build.

THis one is 15, which is pretty short.  (I think it's 15?  But I make no claims to how well it'll cool.)

I don't think that will work out the only other option is a small case that will fit between my rack rails and is max 6u tall (about 25 cm).

how many U do you have to work with?

Silverstones GD series can be installed into Rack mounted cases with a handle Addon.

The GD09 you linked is currently the only option I have found, however there is a shocking number of bad reviews about it especially on pc part picker, which put me off a bit, but as of now it is still my only good option.

Looks like all the bad reviews are just mentioning paint jobs and complaining about cable management. Granted, ATX cables are a lot longer because they're meant to be used for mid and full towers

The cable management does not bother me, however the paint job and general quality does.

Understandable. It looks like the biggest paint issue is the orange peel effect which is actually not unheard of on PC cases, but generally isnt a major issue unless it's a display piece. The choice is up to you though

you can mod the GD09 if need too i dont think your going to find anything better.

ya you can find probably lower height but might not take matx or atx psu

there might be smaller cases that can fit in that gap but you would then need a shelf to put it on.

but most are going to be micro atx

A case like that style is my other option, I am happy to go for one like that, but it would need to be mATX motherboard compatible, which that one isn't.

I need it to fit micro-ATX because this isn't a new build, but it is a change of case to make it work better in my space, I run 300mm deep audio racks(this is in my home studio) or a small amount of desk space with a max height of 250cm as said above, the max width is 45cm and length of about 40cm

hmm im so confused maybe ill stop committing.

so your rack is 11.811inch 30cm deep right? 

with of a rack is 19inch 48.26cm

and 6u height is 10.5 inches 26.67cm (1.75inch each)

 

now you said something about on the desk? you can add it in the rack or small space on the desk what size is that? if its bigger then that would posably work.
