Get Happy About AMD's Lastest Addition To Mantle

ChillKyle

AMD has recently announced their latest game engine CRYENGINE and the latest team up with Crytek. Crytek was the team that brought the Crysis series and the original Farcry.

“AMD is delighted to bring Mantle support to the enormous audience of gamers and game developers reached by Crytek’s CRYENGINE,” said Ritche Corpus, director of ISV gaming and alliances, AMD. “Together, AMD and Crytek are forging a path for the graphics industry that better utilizes gamers’ advanced AMD GPUs through ‘closer-to-the-metal’ API design.”

I think this is a great move upon AMD. If this is in placement then that means we might have a possible patch for Crysis 3 on Mantle.

Almost sounds like CryEngine was made by AMD like that.

Isn't this DOA since DirectX and OpenGL both are close to achieving zero overhead like AMD Mantle. I don't see why any developer would support Mantle from now on?

Yay. The only card I have is an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro (ATI was bought out by AMD). But, it doesn't get Mantle support, so I don't care.

There is still no point in it.

The user base is way to tiny.

GCN has about 10-20% of PC gamer user base.

Nobody will put effort in Mantle especially now that DirectX 12 is right around the corner with over 50% of the PC user base + XboxOne and Mobile.

That counts for the final release.

Early access will start in a few months.

Mantle isn't even Beta phase yet.(It still doesn't work right in Battlefield 4)

Two years?

December 2015 is only 3 months short of two years away. They didn't say when in 2015 it would be released. Therefore I think it is most prudent to assume a worst-case scenario.

Plus it'll most likely be hidden behind a paywall called "Windows 9". Because Microsoft has a track record of doing that.
