Ive been having an issue with my RTX 2060 crashing all my games and I think i may have found the culprit. My GPU was using between 0 and 1 percent usage earlier, so I used DDU for a clean install of drivers and it sort of fixed that issue but my video encoding is still at 0%, even while gaming! same with Decoding. I have had friends share their screens with me and they are sitting at around 15 to 20 percent just on idle with no game running. If anyone can help me fix this issue, I would highly appreciate it. Also, as you can see, the GPU was going up and down rapidly, going back and forth between 30, 55, and 88 utilization. not sure whats going on there either. But I suppose thats better than the 0 percent it was using earlier while gaming.

Video encoding does, as the function says, encode videos (like when you're recording your gameplay). 3D is really the only graph that is supposed to move when playing a game. And games not having a constant load but rather a fluctuating load is also normal.

hmmm any advice on fixing the crashing in games?? my gpu is constantly going up and down on the utilization. like big jumps, as you can see from the graph. it doesnt stay consistent like the CPU and i have a feeling that might have something to do with the crashing. someone also suggested maybe my PSU might be the issue?? its a 600 watt evga and i have a rtx 2060 and ryzen 5 2600. any thoughts?

edit: i just turned on shadowplay and the encoding is still at 0%. any reason why its 0 for me but 16-20 for my friends?

If your CPU is really as high while playing as seen in the screenshot you're likely CPU-limited and the GPU usage being inconsistent is just because of waiting on the CPU to catch up.

Normal not to have any video encode/decode in games.

Well, no, I have no idea concerning your Video Encoder not showing anything. Does the Video Decode go up when, say, playing a YouTube video?

In what way/s are the games crashing? And is it all games or just specific ones?

Also, I can't think of a single game besides Juiced (IIRC it's that one) that causes a somewhat consistent GPU usage.

im on youtube now and the encoder stays at 0, even with shadowplay on.

as for the games crashing, they will either freeze up and i have to force close with task manager or itll just kick me straight to my desktop and sometimes there will be an error message. this is consistent with most games ive tried

Im  using an R5 2600 with the 2060, arent those a decent pair together??

When you click on the arrow next to Video Decode a context menu shows up. Does that menu contain multiple listings for Video Encode or Video Decode?

yes! its shows 3D, Copy, Video encode, video decode, legacy overlay, copy 1, copy 2, security, and VR

the decoder AND encoder stay at 0 no matter what

1. Double check "Hardware-accelerated video decode" and "Hardware-accelerated video encode" are turned to "Enabled" in Chrome://Flags

2. This video was set to 720p60fps or worse, which wouldn't put too much stress on the videocard.

Try a video at very high quality. For example, set this video to 8K and see the video decode do its thing:

Gaming wouldn't be seen under video encode/decode, games are more of a "3D" thing.

Have you tried previous drivers?

Okay, so for some reason your graphics card doesn't seem to be using any sort of hardware-accelerated video de/encoding because they are definitely supposed to show a load when watching video or encoding video. When encoding video (with Shadowplay I assume), what do your system loads look like?

so idk what happened, but I started VR chat with no recording on and the game started using the encoder somehow. and then I ended the game and it dropped back to 0 and then i started shadowplay again and now its encoding?? no idea what happened as I didnt change anything

ok, the encoder thing is fixed now. i appreciate it, but the game crashing is still the same lol youre suggesting I use older drivers? thats a legit question, im not trying to be a smartass lol

Yes, the older driver suggestion is serious.

I've had an issue in the past with games just crashing (and some other time a video editing program crashing) switching to a different driver fixed that for me.

As far as I know, you can't choose an older driver in GeForce Experience though. At best you can choose between Gaming or Studio drivers.

OK I just tried it and the performance was worse and when the game crashed, it caused my PC to blue screen and restart. Idk I've been having so many issues since I Bought this card and I'm honestly starting to believe the card is faulty.
