Your PC is still good enough. No need to start from zero.

Your PC has all the thing that a modern pc need.

Priority no.1 : SSD

From what i suspect (looking up in the web), you still have a regular 1TB HDD, this is the biggest bottleneck in your system.

Lucky for you, you have a M.2 port left open, this means you can buy a m.2 SSD for this PC.

I suggest getting a 256 gb (or more) WD SN550 or Crucial P1/P2.

After you got one, do this :

- prepare an empty 8gb flash drive.

- Go to microsoft windows 10 download the latest OS image (ISO).

- Install RUFUS, plug the flash drive, and select the OS iso to make an installer disk.

- Shutdown the pc and UNPLUG the SATA HDD.

- PLUG the m.2 drive and flash drive and start it.

- Go through the windows installation, after finish and everything has been setup, shutdown and replug the SATA HDD.

OR if you don't want to go through all of that, you can CLONE the drive.

Make sure the total file capacity is less than the new SSD.

Priority no.2 : RAM

8GB is enough for day to day task if you want to upgrade check if the current setup is 1 stick or 2 sticks of memory.

If only 1 sticks, you just have to add another one, preferably THE SAME sticks with the same capacity and speed.

Priority no.3 : GPU

If you game you can get a better GPU. If not don't bother, the integrated GPU is good enough for any task other than gaming.

I agree with @SupaKomputa, it would be better to go for an nvme ssd. an SN550 would be perfect. Get 500 gigs or above, the 250 gb model costs too much for price/gb. Also, if you decide to get a sata ssd (for saving costs), get the mx500 as it is cheap and has excellent performance, very near to the Samsung 860 evo, without the higher cost. I'd suggest get the cheaper one out of sn550 or mx500 on the day of purchase, because in my country, they are often the same price. For the same price or a bit higher the sn550 would be the better choice.

Budget:  $500-$1,200 USD

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Lot's of everything

Other details: (All PC's Specs. are in the photos) I'm looking for a much smoother experience when gaming, using spreadsheets, or just loading the YouTube home page. Things tend to run slow, it takes 4 mins just to boot up. I have little to no programs running at start. (I have the best internet for my location). I know I need a ssd and maybe some more Ram but honestly I'm noobish. Should I build a new pc from scratch or keep what I have and just upgrade it?

I would highly advise you not to start from scratch; what you could do, is throw in an SSD like an mx500 from Crucial, which would reduce the stuttering sluggishness to zero. Trust me. an SSD as a boot drive, works wonders. Also, you have 2 ram slots. I'd suggest putting in another ddr4 ram of 2666 MHz, so that you would have a total of 16 gigs running in dual channel mode (essentially doubling the bandwidth).

With these two upgrades, your computer will become like new again. I recently upgraded my laptop with the exact same things as I'm recommending you, and it feels better than when it was new. The SSD is a true miracle. Your load times and boot times and overall snappiness will become much better with a simple upgrade.

Also, what you could do, is get a Radeon 5600xt, or something like a 1650 super, which will improve your gaming experience a lot more than the 1050 ti After a few years, when you have saved up enough money, I'd suggest you to buy a new CPU and Motherboard, you could go for a Ryzen build or an Intel build depending on what's the best for your money at that point of time in the future, and then you could also swap out your (by then) old GPU for a better one to match your build.

Attention is what makes life meaningful.

  • 2 weeks later...

SN750 is better but more expensive.

SN550 is good enough.

Your choice.
