Budget (including currency): $500

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Hosting a couple services and using it such as a server

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I wanna build a secondary PC but for use like a server to host a couple Minecraft server instances, Terraria, CSGO, and my Discord Bot (it’s not very large scale discord bot which I know would be a concern if it were like on 10,000+ discoed servers but it’s under 1,000 atm). Also with a good upgrade path and not a high power draw so I’d wanna go with AMD.

For Minecraft and Discord bot servers, you don't need that much ram so you should probably go with like 16gb ram and an athlon or smth

i say get a ryzen 3 1300, since they atleast have 4 cores

If you have access to a spare video card you can save the $40.  Or if you have a microcenter close by you can get the non F version of the i3 for $100.

This i3 is a quad core with hyper threading.

For your intended purpose this is pretty good for under $500.

Didn’t ThinkGeek shut down?

not the whole company, maybe one of your local stores, regardless of if they shut down you can still find used servers on ebay for like $100-$150

Minigame servers are really hard to make popular, trust me, I have one and i get 1 player online at peak hours (max)

I mean players aren't really my issue, I've been able to grow them to decent play numbers concurrent but my issue has always been hosting since I just use old spare laptops which uh, doesn't really run them well. Also storage, run out of storage quickly

I wouldn't recommend anything from this list. You haven't clarified any brands and also:

You don't need a server grade CPU for a minecraft server, it would actually make the server slower

You don't need server ram for a minecraft server.

Don't get cheap PSUs, instead, stick with Corsair, EVGA or seasonic

Pretty bad value ram (CL 18). No need for another cooler as stock will be fine, To much storage for a server and its not even a decent NVME stick.

Not always about just going for a big brand, all of those companies have made pretty bad PSUs in the past. Check the PSU tier list on the forum anything in tier c and above will be fine.

Imo a used system is the smartest and cheapest way to go here as others have mentioned, have a hunt on ebay or call some local stores to see what they have going.
