Their performance is absolutely terrible compared to an SSD. And yes, they can't handle many writes before failing.

I just remembered that vidioe, so i would have the use rufus and an iso disk because Microsoft has to be special, at least it would work natively with Linux.

It's because Windows can't be installed onto a USB drive by normal means.

I assume it will work easily with linux, but windows would be harder, if the sd card is connected to sata would it work with windows, like a sata card reader?

You can, but that's a terrible idea in so many different ways. As for using them over SATA (though it wouldn't make any difference at all), watch this video:

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

I can almost buy a 128 gig ssd for the price for an adapter for my 128 gb sd card lol

Their performance is absolutely terrible compared to an SSD. And yes, they can't handle many writes before failing.

No the only thing they have in common is that they use flash storage. They are pretty darn slow and cannot handle too many reads and writes. Just like most generic usb sticks they cannot be used for long before they break and windows is in general barely usable.
