New PC - Gaming and Development

will181

Hi.

I was wondering whether somebody could just quickly check over these components to make sure they should all play nicely together please? I've been pretty thorough in my research but just thought another set of eyes would be helpful.

Ryzen 7 5800x

Gigabyte Ryzen x570 Auros Elite AM4

Fractal Design Meshify C

Corsair Vengeance (2 x 8)

Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4

The GPU will eventually be an RTX 3070 (when I have more money and can get my hands on one), but for now I'm sticking with my old RX 580.

PSU is a Corsair CP-9020131-UK TXM Series 750W TX750M (from my current build)

A couple of random questions

  • I was originally going to go for an MSI X570 motherboard but after hearing about VRM overheat issues, switched. Does anybody know of any issues like this for the Gigabyte boards?
  • Am I correct in thinking that board has support for updating the BIOS (since it's a 5000-series) without installing a CPU, as my old Intel won't fit the socket?

Thanks for any help you can give,

Will

If this is the board you're talking about, then it should definitely have the QFlash function to update the BIOS without a CPU installed.

im fairly certain the x570 boards are ryzen 5000 ready (if not you should be able to update via just a flash drive that has the update on it, im pretty sure my older b450m ds3h v1 has that function)

Corsair Vengeance (2 x 😎

make sure you get something like 3600mhz, because vengeance lpx ram does not overclock what so ever, if you get 3200mhz they will run at 3200mhz, if your get ones that are 3600mhz they will run at 3600mhz.

you cant even underclock them without hassle, so if you do plan on getting that ram, just make sure its 3600mhz lol

Lol, basically same build as mine 😁. I went for B550 and different case but I'm also taking my old GPU (RX 480 here) until 3070 get down in price.

On the other hand, never heard about flashing MOBO BIOS without CPU Installed, we can do that?

PC: R7 5800X, AMD RX480 4GB, 32 GB RAM, 1TB 970 EVO, 500 GB 860 EVO, 500 GB HDD, RM 750 PSU

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 510s 14":  i5 7200U, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB 860 EVO

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G

Personally I would go for a Ryzen 5600X and 2 x 16GB ram. It should perform about the same in games as a 5800X and 2 x 8GB but you'll be glad of the extra RAM for development especially if you want to run virtualized environments

that board doesn't have the bios flashback function to enable bios updates without a cpu installed. therefore, if it comes with an older bios, you'll need an older cpu to update bios.

i'd advise looking into b550 boards, as they are newer, with better compatibility and most of them have bios flashback, including the b550 aorus elite

I got the Gigabyte x570 Auros Elite AM4 board for my Ryzen 7 5800x, and yes it has the Q-flash option, so you can update the BIOS without a cpu installed.

The board is working great, no problem there, go for it 😉
