It's been a super long time since I've upgraded, and I'm looking to upgrade one of my machines for some Titanfall and Diablo III: RoS. I currently run a measly ATI HD5770, but I think its time to shop for a new card for this generations PC games. I'm looking to spent about four hundred dollars at most, and there's so much information around I'm entirely overwhelmed. I've heard things like I should just dump cash into a GTX 600 series card and save for a 780 or even a 790 when they come out this year. But I dont know if I'll ever want to spend five to six hundred dollars on a card, even four hundred dollars is pushing it, so what I've been left with after a buttload of digging is that my best option is an EVGA GTX 770 or a Gigabyte GTX 770.

Before I drop the cash on one of those two cards, I figured I would ask you guys.

For under four hundred dollars, what card do you see to be the best?

Well out of those two, I'd go with the evga 770. Because I've been seeing a lot of good over clocks. If you're into that. It's also pretty solid straight out of the box, gigabyte as well, but I'd personally pick EVGA 770 out of those two. Also, by your $400 mark, it will go over with tax. So I'm assuming you're willing to go over. Also, MSI is really nice, I have one. It's not that loud ;D

Why MSI's 770 isn't an option?

(both EVGA and Gigabyte are good, I guess it comes down to which one is cooler and quieter)

More like which one is cheaper :D

going over with tax is alright, are there any other cards you would consider at this price point, from ati perhaps?

It can basically be inaudible if you manage to configure idle fan speed to 30% (on TwinFrozr ones)

Nope, I don't think that AMD cards will give you better performance per dollar (or even better performance overall) at this price range. Especially if you are considering getting a non-reference 770 from a good vendor.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

Hmm, I'm not as familiar with AMD cards bud. Maybe someone can give you the AMD equivalent and some feed back on their performance. I think the 280X's are the equivalent. I'll have to look it up.

Like the 280X from sapphire, or xfx or diamond should be ok. I'm not as familiar with Power Colour the brand and their quality. Anyways, they all fit your price and performance of the cards are good. So ya, unless someone else has more feed back here on these cards. Do some searching for 280x's and their performance in the games you wanna play. Then enjoy :P

Yep, R9 280X is the equivalent. It seems like 280X performs better in one or two games, with the difference of 3-5%, while 770 beats it in all other titles being 5-15% better.  You might be able to squeeze some more performance from the 280X when Mantle support arrives in new games, but I'd still go with 770, if I were you.

Also, if you are not going for dual-GPU setup, maybe get a 4Gb version of 770? I mean, it never hurts to have some extra memory :)

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

Also to note in later years that because of Direct X12 we should see some performance boosts for Nvidia as well. Really an exciting time for gaming.

Oh yeah, and don't forget the PhysX, that thing is wonderful when it's optimized.

GTX 770 is cheaper than a 280X and equally as powerful in most cases.

If you're k with refurbs, look at EVGA's B-Stock for a 780. That's what I did and I'm having no regrets.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

770, but try looking at EVGAs B-stock program

Got my 2nd GTX 770 SC ACX for my SLI setup from EVGA b-stock for $295 including shipping. First one I bought retail cost me like $360 + tax so that's a pretty sweet deal.

B-stock comes with a 1 year warranty & no accessories vs a new card having a 3 year warranty & all accessories so take that into consideration.

CPU - 3770k @ 4.7GHz | Motherboard - Asrock Z77 Extreme4 | RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB @ 1600 | GPU - EVGA GTX 770 SC ACX (2x SLI) | Case - Coolermaster HAF XM | Cooling - CM EVO 212 | Storage - Corsair Force 3 90GB | WD 2TB x 2 | PSU - Thermaltake SMART 850W | Display - Asus VG248QE 144hz + GSYNC kit |  Mouse - R.A.T. 7 | Sound - Creative Titanium X-FI HD | DT990 | ATH-M50 | ATH-AD700

I took a peak, and the 780 B stock is still six hundred bucks. I think I've decided to get the gigabyte gtx 770 windforce, the anandtech comparisons of all 770s seem to show it is the best
