Best motherboard for i9-10900k?

I would like to upgrade my cpu to an i9 10900k & was wondering what the best motherboard would be for it? I'm currently using a maximus x hero (wifi+ac) which Is an lga1151 socket so I need a new mb. I'm probably going to transfer it to my older pc.

I'm currently interested in this mb

I'm using a 750d airflow edition case.

One other question I have is how would I go about upgrading? Do I need to reinstall windows or something? What is the process when it comes to completely replacing both your mb & cpu? I've never done it before. Will I need any other parts?

What features are you looking for?

  • * Integrated wifi?
  • * Memory Support - size?
  • * RGB Headers - RGB?
  • * USB Support - how many ports, protocol, and connector?

Given the imminent release of 11th gen cpu you may want to wait and get a Z590 motherboard along with an i9-11900K. (Apparently PCIe 4.0 is supported.) Take a look at https://www.anandtech.com/show/16347/the-intel-z590-overview for an idea of motherboard options.

I was considering that but let's be honest, they will all probably be sold out and scalped like every new release so far for some reason. I don't remember scalpers being this bad. I'll probably have to wait until 2022-23 to actually buy an 11th gen cpu & z590 mb.

You may be right. It may also put downward pressure on 10th gen and Zen 3. Certainly I expect AMD will have addressed its supply issues in a month or two.
