A single r9 290 easily runs games at solid 60 fps in 1440p maxed out.

I only use crossfire for the latest most demanding games at ultra such as Crysis 3.

I'm sorry, but a GTX titan SLI with 3 way 4k surround won't lag at all. Yes it does make it smoother and that's it's whole purpose. Mantle does more than that, I tested it with a R7-250 and a a8-5600k and it boosted my FPS even at 1080p. It does help for people gaming at low resolution too.

mantle is the way to go if you are on a budget

but i doubt mantle will be a thing in 2015 with dx12 around from what i heard

will i said what i have to say

OP for you i recommend a 1080p 144hz monitor

that is all :)

i hope no one got offended by my comments lol

lol sure

have fun op at tearing :D

-snip-

Tearing is usually that bad at low framerates.

@OP, take it from someone with experience with monitors. Go for 1440p and have the time of your life with gaming. You won't get tearing most of the time.

you are fine

1440p is too hard for amd cards from exerience

even if you went with amd for 1440p you will lag and tearing and juggering unlike Nvidia

Nvidia is the way to go

so don't bother

no just no

too hard ... are you kidding me

im running a 1600p monitor on my GTX 570 at 1.2GB Vram lol ......

buy a 290 it will be fine

just to add support for this, I have never had tearing @1440 with my 780 ti (since there is no difference between AMD and Nvidia with out G SYNC)

Nvidia cards will have tearing too. G-Sync isn't even out yet and won't be for a while, and when it does, it will cost a METRIC ASS TON.

Now stop qqing about how Nvidia is supposedly better than AMD.

I have owned an HD 7970, R9 280X and a GTX 780, non of which have had any issues. Mantle is nothing but good due to the fact that it is free, and it boosted my fps by 10-20fps @1080p. I have never had tearing on any of the 3 cards.

The R9 290 will probably perform similarly to the 780 @1440p, maybe even better. Stop fanboying so hard. I don't see why you can't understand that both are GREAT companies.
