Careers in IT

RTX 3090

Saying you want to work in "IT" is like saying you want to work in "sports". You have to be more specific to get any advice.

Also, my experience is, don't listen to the people saying certs or an education is useless. A lot of people commenting on that in this thread doesn't even seem to have a basic understanding of how a recruitment process is done so they are likely very old, very young or only has a low-tier job.

What is more beneficial, getting a wider skill set or just getting certifications for the stuff you already know ?

depends on how you want your career to go. As I said my A+ was enough to get my current job (First line help desk, with some college under my belt and a computer tech/repair course in my 11th and 12th grade years of high-school) but I have been looked over for promotions now because I don't have an actual degree. I work currently at a community college. I also at one point owned my own repair business (I was mobile didn't have a store front. my town is small so I didn't make more than about 150-200$ a month doing it, it was not worth the effort I was putting into it.) I wish I had finished college when I was younger, I'm 37 now and finally going back to get my degree. (WGU BS Cyber Security, after that I plan to get a Masters in IT Business Admin from WGU. I want to be the guy that runs the entire Tech dept for a business etc Job titles like Chief Information Office. Chief Technology Office, etc.)

Same, I want to do something similar, like managing all the tech stuff for a small business or company, as there is a lot less stress and tbh it's kinda fun. I don't really want to be coding all day, not socialising with anyone else just stuck infront of my monitor e.t.c.
