How did I damage my GPU

Hello everyone so in my most recent build I decided to include a rx 580 Because I got a good deal on it, so installing and everything went swell, until I booted it up and I kept getting no signal and no post. So, What I did was go through a bunch of random guides and everything because my pc and everything was all lighting up and no ez-debug lights were on and GPU fan was spinning.

SPECS

Ryzen 5 3600 CPU
Msi Radeon rx 580 armor
B450 Tomahawk max motherboard
16 Gb DDR4 RGB ram
Evga BR 500 watt Bronze Power supply
An NZXT H510 Case
And a 940 gb SSD
and Yes I did connect the PC
However, today I randomly decided to put my old gt 1030 into the pc, and voila, it booted perfectly into bios and everything and I installed windows without any issues.

So, I was wondering if that is possible? No ez-debug leds, fans spinning, but still a DOA gpu? and Im ordering another rx 580 so any way I can prevent this for next time or is that just how it is?

Thanks

is the cable connected to your gpu? Ryzen 5 3600 cannot display anything so do not pplug the cable in to the motherboard.

try to clear CMOC by removing the battery when the pc is unplugged, then press and hold the power button for 30seconds-1 minute. wait 5minutes and plug the battery back in.

I did everything possible to get the pc to post trying one ram, clearing cmos, reseating everything and making sure cables are fine etc. But nothing seemed to work. it booted to bios right after i switched the gpu, but the mobo had no ez debug lights on and fans were spinning

was it a new gpu? has it ever worked?

if you've not seen it working even once it may have been in fact DOA, it happens... failure right generally with electronics is around 2-5% iirc... of course QA should catch it but they don't always...

if it was a used card... then who knows!
