New PSU Screeching sound

Baked92

Hello I’ve bought a new PSU today (Corsair HX1000) And after replacing my old one (Corsair RM750) I noticed that under load the PSU makes a terrible very loud screeching sound. At first I thought that maybe some cable got cought in the fan but no. It works very quiet until I put the PC under a lot of load (3DMark, cyberpunk etc) Here is a video with sound of what I’m trying to explain. Do I need to send it back or is there anything else I could do?

Have the unit replaced. That is far from normal if you ask me. The sound does come from the coils or capacitors or both. I'd call that a defective unit.

@Corsair Nick

Sounds like the transformer wining.  Shouldn't be making that noise.  I'd have Corsair swap it out.

It's probably a defective unit, but I strongly suggest trying a different power circuit in your house just in case.

Definitely need to get that unit replaced.  If the unit is within the retailer exchange period you can go through them, or directly through CORSAIR.  Just create a ticket through our support portal below, and one of our Technical Support reps will be able to take care of you.

Thanks all for the replies! I’ve ordered a second HX1000 since I have 1day delivery and already requested a return of the faulty one. However when I put the new one in it also makes this sound a little bit quieter but still... Am I really that unlucky to get two faulty PSU’s in a row ? Or could there be another reason why ?

You might have something with your mains.

Can you take your PC to another building?  Office, friend's house, etc.?  And plug it in there?  Also, does the noise change when you unplug USB devices from the PC?
