Are MSI Gaming X GPUs worth it?

LoneWulf

I just bought an MSI 1050 ti gaming x, and I realized, I can get a pretty nice ASUS Tuf 1650s for about the same price (around $160). And then after that, I look around a bunch of sites, comparing the prices of gaming x’s and other cards fro: different brands. The gaming x’s are usually about $20 more, give or take. So that got me wondering, are gaming x’s really worth the price? I get you can overclock it more, but if you’re building a budget gaming rig, is the extra $20-$30 worth it?

I usually compare on userbenchmark.com It comes down to your choice whether you want more performance or more cash in your wallet

OUTDATED JAN 2021 ===========> Check out my pc building guide! might be useful tho

It's great for planning new builds, getting a reference on where to start, or seeing what you need to play what games.

It also shows what I recommend for upgrading your stuff!

cpu - ryzen 5 3600

gpu - gtx 1070

ram - (2x8) 3200mhz

probably has a better cooler so more overclocking potential and it probably looks a lot cleaner so it really just depends on if you can cough up the 20 or so bucks

Never use userbenchmark.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

for rough estimates you always have to look at the breakdown and see which are more important to you

It's not just the Gaming X, all premium custom cards like the ROG Strix, Gigabyte Aorus and so on are just not worth it on low end to even mid range GPUs. The extra cost is a big turn down here, while it's not so prevalent on high end GPUs because the whole system is already expected to be expensive
