So basically for the last couple of months I've been gathering what I need to get my build done.

I'm waiting on 2 things my 3080 and a set of Cablemod PSU cables, I don't mind swapping the 3080 in later, but I'm not planning to do the cables twice.

However my order has been backorderer and I noticed that cablemod.eu made a statement that there won't be stock till April.

4 months is a long time to me, so I'm looking at other possibilities.

I'm thinking of replacing my EVGA g2 850w psu for a corsair one, for which I can still get the cables.

If I go through with this, these are my options

Second hand HX1200 for 150€

Brand new Rm1000x for 185€

Brand new rm1000i for 250€

Second hand ax1500x for 250€

The wattage is definitely more than I need, but I don't want to buy a "long lasting" psu with 850w, power consumption is going up and I don't want to have issues in 2-5 years from now.

Any suggestions?

You're looking to replace your G2 just for cable compatibility?

Because otherwise, it kind of sounds like a waste of money to me, though knowing what exact 3080 it is and what other components you're powering would also be good to know.

Is it really going up though? I mean, I think trying to predict the future in this industry is already silly, but just looking back at the past few years I see the opposite of what you're saying.

Sure, high-end GPUs this generation are more on the power hungry side, but it's not as big of a difference as some people make it out to be. And this generation could very well just be an odd one out in the power consumption regard like Vega was.

I mean, if we were to go by this same logic 3 years ago when the Vega 64 launched, high-end GPUs would be pulling 600W now, and... they aren't.

Sounds silly, almost as silly as making an order and getting a delivery date that's 6 months from now :P

In all honesty, I feel like newer EVGA PSU's have fallen quite behind, cable availability on ebay for C-series is substantial enough that I can save an easy 30-50€ on my cables.

Factor in that my PSU is 5 years old and I can still sell it locally I wouldn't lose that much money for a new PSU + early delivery

I'm also worried that if I don't have a "upgrade path" for when the 5-year old PSU "Eventually" breaks down, that I'd have a useless set of expensive cables sitting there.

That was the mindset I was going with.

I haven't decided yet what to do, but I'd hate for my PC case to sit here till "April" which tells me it might as well be by the summer.

As far as what else is being/will be powered:

Asus Z490 mobo

I5-9600K

16GB DDR4 3000mhz RAM (non RGB)

Asus RTX 3080 TUF

2 - 1TB SSD's

1 - HDD

7 - 140mm Fans

5 - Phanteks ARGB halos

3 - Phanteks Neon LED strips

1 - Phanteks RGB hub

1 - Phanteks PWM hub

Pretty sure 850 is more than enough, I've gotten unlucky once with a too low powered PSU in the past.

The sustained wattage consumption was fine, but "peaks" going above the limited triggered random reboots.

Took a while to figure out the problem, and by then I'd been replacing different components to aleviate the problem.

Since then I tend to go higher in wattage, better safe than sorry, I'd "Feel safer" with a PSU slightly above my current one, at around 1000w.
