What can i do to improve my 3800x in games? (Warzone specifically)

So i just got my 3070, and even at 1080p ultra settings i still dont get 99% GPU usage in warzone, usually my fps is around 110-120. Ive got a 144hz monitor so i would like full 144hz.

Its clearly a CPU Bottleneck with my 3800x. Are there any things i can do to tune my CPU to perform better? Ive heard ram tuning helps? Ive got 32gb 4x8gb 3600mhz CL18. Motherboard is an Aorus X570 Pro

Ram tuning can help, but only so much. Likely not really noticeable in games. You could also try overclocking, but normally you can't overclock a Ryzen over it's single core turbo, so you'd likely just lose more performance than you'd gain.

 

You can look up a tutorial for "Ryzen DRAM Calc" if you're interested in a quick and easy way to tune up your RAM a bit.

Yeah i had a look into it, downloaded it and saw that i can get my 3600 cl18 kit to cl16, but probably no better than that. Is that worth it? Unless maybe i can get the frequency up?

 

I also dont think my chip wants to overclock any further than stock, i think im better off with the boost speeds... Unless there is some ryzen overclocking way that i dont know about. (i switched from intel and only ever overclocked my 4670k)

I can't say how much it will help in Warzone as i don't play it myself and have no idea how the game behaves. The best way to know is by trying yourself. But some games are not bound by hardware and can only run so good.

 

Take Arma 3 for example:

My CPU sitting at 30% useage, GPU at 40%, Game running at 40 FPS.

I have by no means a bad PC (specs in my signature), but this is just because the game's FPS are limited by the server i'm playing on.

As soon as i'm playing singleplayer mode my FPS are 100+.

Yeah warzone is weird as the multiplayer performs fine. Its just the large scale warzone map is very cpu demanding maybe (clocks over cores too)

when idling or just opening chrome and light tasks i get around 4450-4300, but in cod i get 4200-4250 (nearly all core) most of the time...

Hmm I'm also on a 3800x and 360 aio but i boost to 4550 and hold 4400-4450 in games, that's stock with no PBO

Is your ambient temp high?  I know warzone isn't very well optimized but i think you should be getting more from the CPU.

If your temps are fine maybe try enabling PBO and see where that takes you. Memory tuning won't really help with max fps but will help with 1% and 0.1% lows.

Ive got PBO and AutoOC on, Ambient temp shouldnt be too high (currently winter in the UK), and its defo not using all of the cooler capability, i tried maxing the fans and it still hits similar temperatures and doesnt boost any higher... 

Maybe my cooler isnt fitted properly?

75-80c under a full core load, around 60-65 under warzone gaming.

CPU fan RPM is usually around 1300-1400 under any load/.

Did you DDU the old drivers before installing the 3070?

Is your ram running at it's rated 3600mhz?

 

 

I did see an issue recently in a Discord server related to Ryzen cpu usage issues that was solved with a fresh GPU driver install.

I dont think its a gpu specific issue, as its only in warzone, and ive seen other people report that warzone likes high clocks after the new update. its a common issue with warzone only.

Maybe try and improve the cooling situation, some KPX, Gelid GC extreme or thermal grizzly thermal paste will help.

 

Look at CTR, clock tuner for Ryzen. Gives a good indication of silicon quality along with OC and or undervolt settings. Just be sure to read through the instructions and have the bios set correctly before yo run it for it to work.

 

Results have been quite impressive with regards to performance boost at lower power draw/heat. Worth a look.

I'll try the ram overclock then improve the cooling, it's still using the stock thermal paste from the bottom of the cooler so could be worth a try to change it.

you can do a little bit with ram and oc maybe enough to get you to 144fps but the best solution is to be happy with your 3800x or get a 5800x

I tried the ram overclock, and I did memtest for 3 hours without any issue, however I left it overnight and I got 4 issues in the space of 12 hours. Should this be something to worry about?
