Hi, been a while since my last post. I was just wondering if there actually is a GPU shortage around the world. I live in a pretty small town with a population of around 350,000 in the Philippines, and it seems like all PC shops have the latest RTX 30 Series available, albeit costing way more than MSRP. It is pretty frustrating to see them posting that stock is available and selling them at scalper prices. For example, a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC costs around $1150 if it was converted to USD; a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC costs around $790 converted; Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC is around $635. As for the new AMD GPUs, the stock really seems limited, the only one I found is the Gigabyte RX 6800 Gaming OC which costs around $930.

Is everyone else also noticing this? I wonder if it really is just the supply or if these vendors are just taking advantage of the demand, pretty sad to see they are not even close to MSRP. Hope everyone is staying safe!

@Cvet76i feel ur pain.. Why tf does EVERY (most, just ranting)  single tech/gadget is based on the US market....  It's not our fault we have to pay absurd taxes because of the government! Also, did I mention some countries like Australia have such low value of dollar compared to USD? :/ .-.

To every corporation that operate on an international scale the most important markets are: 1.The United Stated, 2.China, 3.Europe (4.and maybe Japan?).

The rest are treated as an afterthought, since the prioritize the 3 biggest economies in the world.

i feel like india can also be on that list due to its population no. of people ready to buy, just the inflation stops them. its not like duty is much either, just 1% for computer components in india.

as for the pricing, indian amazon is really a cheater, an rtx 8000 on  amazon.in costs is 6,67,990 INR but on a local retailer (its not a scam, it is like a microcenter, but in india) it costs just 398,000 INR.

As for the new GPUs, 3060 ti starts at 515$, 3070 starts at 745$, 3080 starts at 1071$ and 3090 starts at 2034$

Take into account the import tax and local tax when comparing prices. Just regular conversion means little. I'm in the EU and it's absurd how cheap prices in the US for most everything are. Especially tech gadgets and devices.
But to answer your question, yes. there is a shortage of most everything. CPUs and GPUs. A ton of devices (consoles, phones, various pc components) were released this year from a ton of different manufacturers and brands and the supplies and production resources just can't keep up with the demands of millions of people.

Okay, so your area doesn't have stock around? I did take into account the taxes here, it still didn't amount to this. When the 2070 Super launched, it was around $700, and the exchange rates were worse then. It really doesn't seem like there is a shortage of the new Nvidia 30 Series here though, consoles though are a different story. Do the big vendors there sell anything close to MSRP with tax accounted? Like when they had stocks, were they sold at a seemingly fairly price?

These GPU launches just had everything that can go wrong, go wrong.

Nvidia: Bad yields for Samsung and overall complicated cards.

AMD: Trying to stretch their limited chips between PS5, Xbox Series X, Ryzen 5000 and RX 6000 series

Both: GDDR6 shoratges, scalpers and lots of people with older cards trying to upgrade at the same time.

Plenty of Nvidia cards available in Japan, although prices are, and always will be, higher than the US. A 3070 will set you back 700 USD, a 3080 about 1000 and a 3090 around 1800 USD. But that’s the norm here. When I see the price for the 3070 quoted as 499 USD it makes me laugh as it will never be sold for that price in Japan.

I bought a 3080 2 months ago full payment up front and I am still waiting. Bought it from Germany.

The most ridiculous thing is the prices shot up again....

I payed 940 Euros for the GPU now the same GPU also preorder same shop goes for 1100 Euros.

I follow this thread to stay updated on the supply situation in Germany.

https://www.proshop.de/RTX-30series-overview

And that mostly goes for the EU in general.

I see some drops here in local stores (small EU country) and they sell the 3080 for like 1200-1400 Euros when it is in stock and they get like 3 cards at best.

And only locally no international shipping you have to come and pick it up in person.

I can get a 3090 without too much trouble but starting at 1750 Euros more like 1800 Euros 3090 are in stock in the EU

Yes.
Silicon, substrates and memory are slowing everything down.

Yes and no. A number of components are in tight supply, we saw this mid 2020 as well on certain things.

But I think the scalpers are massively impacting the PC parts market as well as other electronics. Its pretty clear 2020 has driven demand up so they saw an opportunity to basically fuck everyone else for money and took it. I think without the scalpers in the picture supply would be tight be most people would be able to get what they are looking for.
