Assuming you're running Wreckfest through Steam, check and make sure that the controller binds in Steam's settings are correct, or make sure that whatever controller binds needed for Wreckfest are properly set within Steam.

I had a similar issue with Team Fortress 2 where buttons were just randomly assigned for no reason and I had to manually change them.
