The implication is It wasn’t the new drivers causing the slowdown, but something else.  That could be lots of things.  WiFi is radio and is subject to all kinds of interference.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

I was usually averaging speeds of 80 to 90mbs before. It started slowing down after i updated the Wi-Fi drivers, so I rolled back to the previous one. But now speeds have been constantly low

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

This is unsurprising for WiFi. Not much else you can do really. It's sort of like how you can have really crappy LTE at home one day and blistering fast the next. Just as Bombastinator has alluded to, since it's a broadcast medium, it's never going to be reliable 24/7 as a wired connection. It's very possible it was always like that prior to your driver update, you just never noticed. No one checks that WiFi status window every day.

That 72Mbps is currently negotiated maximum speed between your computer and wifi access point. So speed in WLAN, local wireless network.

Speedtest on the other hand show speed of your internet connection.

These thing are related only in this way: Internet speed < WLAN speed. So this looks perfectly fine.

If you want higher WLAN speeds, try to force using 802.11n or newer (if your wifi ap and computer support it).
