What's the difference between a super ultra-wide and a triple screen?

Et17

People always complain about incompatibility issues with a super ultra-wide and lots of stretching on the edges. My question is why there isn't compatibility issues and stretching with spanned triple screen setups? Isn't that technically an even wider aspect ration? Also, would I get an even larger and more productive  experience if I just bought three identical monitors?

IME, triple monitors allow me to set individual resolutions and/or orientations. Something a single ultra super mega wide won't let me do.

My guess, wallpaper isn't designed for that high of a resolution so it's stretched. Triple screen on the other hand it is 3 physical monitors.

That's up to you, and your workflow needs.

For me (a photographer) triple 24" 1920x1200 screens are heavenly.

Yes, especially if you aren't on Windows because in my experience, no other OS can match Windows's window snapping which is a must-have for a single monitor.

Source: I run triple monitors and use Arch w/ KDE (btw)

I was refering to video games

That presents a different issue. Putting the game on all three monitors introduces the physical black bars where one screen ends and the other begins and while I don't game on anything but a single of my monitors, I would think a game spanned across three, would look odd given the frames of the monitors. But that's just my opinion.

(Super) Ultra-wide monitors are "odd" ratios.

For example...

  • 32:9, 3840 x 1080
  • 12:5, 3840 x 1600
  • 21:9, 2560 x 1080

Not many games / wallpapers / applications support those resolutions natively.

It's usually 3840 x 2160, 1920 x 1080, etc.

Three 1080p monitors is 5760 x 1080.

But again, it's just 3x regular 1080p displays.
