Are the 5000 series AMD CPUs worth it?

Hiredguns

I'm having a hard time picking a CPU.

My options are (but not limited to):

There is a big price difference between these components & I'm debating whether it'd be worth it or not.

I'd be pairing it with a 3080 and 32gb ddr4 3600mhz memory.

Edit: Would be using for gaming primarily but also light productivity.

         Budget would be around £300 - £600

Worth it for what?  For example, none of those are particularly good gaming CPU's, but they're all good content creation CPUs.

That's not true, the 5xxx gen cpus which are also listed are a good chunk faster than intels offerings... And even the third gens arent to bad compared if the price is right.

Though @op, use case and budget would be appreciated as this dictates the rest

I mean for their price.  Right now, AMD's biggest competitor is AMD.  There's not really a reason to get a 16 thread CPU for gaming.  Almost everything caps out at 8 threads.  Getting a 6c/12t CPU gives you everything you need plus plenty of buffer room for the future.

Then a 3800X would be your best bet, unless you can get a 5600X for the same price.  The extra cores are going to do you no favors in gaming.  At that point, you're just paying for the extremely minor bump in clock frequency.

5600X is the best gaming CPU you can get without spending money on cores you don't need. I don't regret "downgrading" from a 3700X to a 5600X. Gaming performance is noticeably better and i never needed the extra 2 cores i got because i thought "maybe i need them in the future".

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

As everyone else said, 5600x is probably enough. If you really want to spend it, 5800x but thats terrible value
