Definately get a DAC and amp if you're getting the HD800. The board audio should be loud enough though

At least get a Schiit stack (modi 3+ and magni 3+) or jds labs atom stack. It will greatly improve your audio with those headphones

Edit: or if you're feeling cheap then just get one of the amps and maybe later on add the dac

PC Audio Setup = Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohm and Sennheiser pc37x (also for xbox) hooked up to Schiit Fulla 3

Powering the HD800s from a motherboard is like painting a car with house paint, technically it still paints the car but the quality isn't anywhere near what it would be if you did the job properly. Just get an amp man, we've had this conversation before

Nobody is actually answering the question :(

I understand amp better yada yada yada but consider if I'm spending this much and purposely not getting amp maybe there is reasons..?

Now is there any sort of spec sheet for my onboard?

We can't give you specs until you ID your motherboard silly, there are many different B450f boards.....

If you are skeptical of better DAC/amps why did you buy those headphones in the first place. I think you should know this stuff buying those headphones. Just get a schiit stack or something. Get something cheap. It'll sound much better than your onboard audio.

No clue what your talking about.

Because I'm sceptical of dacs I shouldn't buy headphones? R u good?

And no. Your saying it will sound much better without knowing how go current is.

I can't tell the difference between my phone and an RME fireface 800 so trust me I'm gucci just looking for the answer to my quesrion

Theres no real simple answer when it comes to motherboard as because audio isnt the main selling point manufactures dont normally give out detail spec lists with power outputs and noise levels.

Theres a simple rule of thumb that the motherboard manufactures put better audio components on there high end motherboards. Thats a high end motherboard the most details I can say is from their marketing which just say 32 to 600 ohms compatible. The 800s are 300 ohms so I guess thats something. But theres not details from Asus on power output at that resistance.

So no one can say for sure unless they have that motherboard and headphonse or testing equipment to test that motherboard audio.
But the headphones arnt the most sensitive out there at 96dB per 1mW. But 96dB is very loud for headphones and 1mW even at 300 ohms is not a lot of power. Iphones can rock out 3mW at 300 ohms. I cant say 100% accuracy that the motherboard produces enough power as the data just doesn't exist but I'd bet money it produces more then a iphone and I think we would of heard a lot of complaints about that motherboard if it couldn't produce more power then a iphone to the point that its not useable.

They are actually 102 dB @1mW I reckon they will be fine then, thanks.

No noise, no clipping, no distortion and plenty of headroom for volume. Work perfectly :)

That is great. You do have more headroom for better amplification and cleaner output. You can't be for sure that you are not hearing any interference. Especially when the GPU is under load.

I tried them with my RME 800 and could only notice very small difference.

Do you think if I bought an element 2 it would be substantially better than my rme?

I did not say there was a big and HUGE difference. But there was still headroom for a bit better performance. You are lucky with your mobo DAC.

So i spent some time with my hd800s, my phone with a Snapdragon 855+ (oneplus 7t pro) and an RME800 and honestly couldn't tell the difference...

Would you still recommend me get an element 2?
