here are claims it could be half the size, but that would be feasible without compromising on expansion using ARM. A large chunk of the Mac Pro's interior is devoted to cooling and airflow.

They spent a lot of money developing the case of the new Mac Pro...and they knew Apple Silcon was coming....I have to think they'd keep the case, and even designed it with thoughts beyond the intels.

The cost of designing a case is probably pennies compared to the money Apple is spending on the ARM transition.

Apple isn't going to be tripping over dollars to pick up pennies.

It feels strange to be speculating on an update to a brand new product.

What is interesting here, the tech or the NextNewThing?

Seems like the point isn't to use or enjoy technology, just to create hype and sell...

You're right in principle, but my point is, Tim Cook's signature as an exec was logistics, not wasting money, controlling inventory, no waste, etc.  I think they'd be have the M1 etc in mind while they were designing the Mac Pro.
