NVME Drives in Raid?

richaoj

Hello all.  Thanks in advance for any help.

My friend had a PC built by someone a number of years ago.  I can verify visually and in Bios that there are two NVME drives installed--both Samsung 960 EVOs.  He tells me he thinks they were once configured in RAID, but is not sure.  I don't see any evidence on the PC of any RAID software, e.g. AMD RaidExpert.  The system is running on a Gigabyte X470 board with a 2700x installed.

In windows, I only see one drive, even in Disk Man.  I downloaded RaidExpert and it says it can't do anything since Windows is installed.  In Bios, both have namespace 1 (I'm not sure what that means, but it makes me think it was RAID 1 at one point?).

Are we looking at a dead drive?  Or a previously configured RAID that is no longer configured?  Any thoughts?

Maybe the latter, an array that is no longer configured.

Check his BIOS somewhere for some term like NVMe RAID, it may delete his contents though.

Thanks all.  I ended up having to turn off NVME raid in Bios a couple of times to get it to take.  Finally.  I now see both NVME drives.
