Do you plan on doing any overclocking? If so, get something like a Noctua NHD-14

If not, get the 212 EVO like everybody else has said

He's on a tight budget, the D14 would most likely be out of his price range.

Evo is a really good cooler for the price.

Yeh, 212 EVO if you are  on a budget, or have a neat little(ish) system. Other than that i will definitely reccomend the Noctua NH-D14, because it is silent and have awesome temps(i have a 4770k at 4,5ghz under mine with no problems :)).

Hyper 212 if you are on a budget.

NH-D14 if you want to get some higher overclocks since Haswell runs really hot.

i do plan on overclocking, the reason i gave you this list is because these are the cpu collers in my budget from the store im buying the pc from.

i can buy the nh-d14 from another store the problem is that i dont really know how to mount it.

should i still get the d14? and does it worth the extra money.

EDIT: and will it fit on a fractal design r4 with a maximus vi gene?

It fits my XL R2 fine so it should with the R4. If you're worried about mounting it just look up some videos on youtube. I personally have the D14 and it was totally worth it as it only goes up to 70C under IBT (MAX) at 4.4GHZ.

i7 4770K @ 4.5GHZ, NH-D14, Kingston HyperX Black 8GB, Asus Z87-A, Fractal Design XL R2, MSI TF IV R9 280x, BTFNX 550G

YES it fits in an R4.

The build in my signature is my gaming PC and the NH-D14 fits perfectly  :)

The evo can do 5GHz easily and theres no performance difference between the nh-d14 & evo on haswell.. You're hitting a thermal wall before you even push a 212's to its limit.

the evo 212 will handle 4.5-4.7 Ghz with no problem?

Of course. The problem with ivy bridge & haswell is between the die & metal cover (look http://media.bestofmicro.com/ivy-bridge,6-L-335901-13.jpg), usually the die was soldered to the heatspreader (grey metal cover) but since Ivy bridge they started to use thermal paste and glue the heatspreader that's causing a heat dispace bottleneck meaning that there's not enough heat being transfered to the heatspreader. So basically you would hit a thermal wall, there would be only around 50% of a 212 cooling capacity utilized and if you get a better cooler like a nh-d14 you're utiziling 20-30% of it with the same exact temperatures. Customloop is a waste for them.

Since heat & wattage are synonymous; a 3930K's power consumption is a lot higher than a 4670k/4770k, an evo can easily handle a 3930K@4.2-4.5GHz & or another example the evo was perfectly enough for a 2500K@5GHz which would mean a 4670K is not even a challenge for a 212.

You won't pull more clocks with a nh-d14, that's complety false. That would only happen on S2011 cpu's or AMD cpu's or Sandy bridge, not on haswell/ivy bridge.

My vote goes for the NH-D14 since it's one of the best coolers out there. I have one in my other builds and it's able to handle my 3570K at 4.7Ghz like a champ. Here's a review showing the NH-D14 handling a 3770K at 4.6Ghz. Your 4770K will of course run hotter but it should give you an idea of how good this cooler is.
