Trouble with windows education edition

My cousin has windows 10 education edition on his desktop somehow, and I can't figure out how to get it back to windows 10 home without a new install. I've tried putting in the windows 10 home product key, tried using the windows installer (it keeps defaulting to education) but to no avail. Any clue how to get it working?

So I googled around and Windows Education is considered higher then home in the windows hierarchy and they don't allow downgrades. Your only option would be going higher to pro version or formatting your windows partition and doing fresh install
