Hi all,

I am looking to build a 5-year computer. However, I am new to this and by no means an expert, but have watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews, but would really appreciate some feedback on whether this makes sense as a setup.

Budget (including currency): 6000 euro (incl. monitors) (Which is huge for me, so I really would like to validate my choices)

Country: Belgium (likely purchasing from the Netherlands as it is cheaper and better choice in general)

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming (primarily FPS), office work and some video+image editing

Other details: here is what I was thinking

·       Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL (yes I know everyone has it… but I really like it)

·       Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus X570 MASTER

·       CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

·       GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GeForce RTX 3090 Xtreme 24G

·       RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 4x32GN (F4-3600C16Q-128GTZN)

·       CPU Cooling: Gigabyte Aorus Liquid Cooler 360 (mounted at the top of the case)

·       Case Cooling: 7x Corsair ML120 PRO RGB LED 120MM PWM Fan (3 side, 3 bottom, 1 rear)

·       M.2 (for Windows, office software, etc.): Corsair Force MP600 500GB

·       M.2 (games library): Corsair Force MP600 1TB

·       HDD (general file storage): Seagate BarraCuda

·       PSU: be quiet! DARK POWER PRO 11 1200W

·       Monitors: 3x LG 27GL850-B (I have gotten used to 3 monitors and want to stick with 3)

I would like to buy as soon as possible and would like to play as high refresh rate, etc. as possible.

General feedback is very welcome, but here are my 'specific' questions:

1. Have I made any noob mistakes (stuff that is not compatible, makes no sense, etc.)?

2. Are there better alternatives at similar prices for the components I mention?

3. I really struggled on the ram, is 128GB overkill even if it is a 5-yar computer, should I go down to 64GB? Is there a better alternative to go with (I looked at Corsair too, but got lost in the maze of ram and decided just to focus on selecting within one brand)? Would it be better to go 64GB and leave it as an upgrade path and then take the difference and put it somewhere else in the meantime – the difference between G.Skill Trident Z Neo F4-3600C16Q-64GTZN and G.Skill Trident Z Neo F4-3600C16Q-128GTZN is (surprisingly ‘only’) about 200 euro.

Thank you all!

ima stop right there in the post , what are you doing that even uses a quarter of the amount of ram you've selected?

1. thats alot of ram. but its your boat and your workflow. People don't like seagate and call some of their drives unreliable. I have never gone seagate but they have lots of positive reviews and linus has partnered with them before. I am pretty sure you don't need 1200 W of power but if this is going to be your "long haul with upgrades" pc then if you have the budget, go for it.

2. are you sure you don't want to wait for upcoming amd gpu's?

3. its honestly your choice. you may need it depending on what you do but I do agree, 128 is pretty overkill. I would say go 64 but if you can snatch a 128 gb kit for a good deal i would see no reason not too.

PC specs:

Ryzen 9 3900X overclocked to 4.3-4.4 GHz

Corsair H100i platinum

32 GB Trident Z RGB 3200 MHz 14-14-14-34

RTX 2060

MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge wifi

NZXT H510

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

2 TB WD hard drive

Corsair RM 750 Watt

ASUS ROG PG248Q

Razer Ornata Chroma

Razer Firefly

Razer Deathadder 2013

Logitech G935 Wireless

As far as I'm concerned no

Actually no as well. You've picked on the best X570 mobo and man that graphics card is a chonker

I mean if you had the money. Then why not??? just go nuts with it man

Verdict : I think you can do better with the storage considering the budget and you forgot to mention the case that you're planning on using.

this is what i'd do:

there is no point in a x570 master over a b550 master, if anything, the b550 has no chipset fan

there is no point in a overly expensive "branded" gigabyte watercooler

32gb ram would be enough, but there, 64 for you.

there is no point in paying 1000 extra euros on a 3090 for 10% performance. keep those 1000 and spend them in 2 years time on the 4080.

there is no point in a 1200w psu. this 850w psu is excellent, silent, and more than enough.

Thank you @boggy77 for taking the time to put that together! ... I have to say that I sobbed a bit and felt like I got everything wrong, but once I got over that... The list is very interesting, I have a few questions (to learn a little more) if you don't mind :)

I have not come across these, are they reliable?

Again, I do not get all the finer points of RAM, but have understood that 2 sticks are better than 1, but are 4 better than 2? (i.e. 4x16 instead of 2x32)?

This is 10GB so my first question is whether the 24GB card overkill? Also, you suggest that I save the 1000 and buy a 4080 in two years... my thought with the 3090 was that if I would need more graphics power in the future then I could buy another 3090 and SLI them, but that is not possible with the 3080 (I think I read that somewhere)... any thoughts on that?

Cooler Master SickleFlow 62 CFM 120 mm Fan

Are these not a lot more noisy than the Corsair MLs?

Thanks again :)

(Of course anyone else that has thoughts, by all means please share your views and knowledge too :) )

Is that less reliability with more ram in terms of GB or in terms of sticks (4 vs 2)?

in terms of sticks , but also gb too

though as time advances ram gets more reliable with capacity.

32gb of EDO ram would obviously be horribly unreliable , but 32gb of ddr is just fine , ect.....

Good question... how long of a wait is that likely to be and would that be likely to be a lot better?

Well from benchmark and marketing claims at the moment, they seem to beat Nvidia. But if you choose to follow through, make sure to wait for launch reviews about the cards to see if their performance holds up with claims.

Crucial is a good company that make ram and ssds, with chips from Micron. 2 are better than 1. 4 is better than 2 only in 4gb and 8 gb sticks, that are single rank. 16gb stick and 32gb sticks are dual rank so won't matter whether you have 2 or 4 stick. I went with 2x32gb to keep 2 slots empty in case you actually need to upgrade to 128gb (doubt it).

Depends on what you do. Sli is not really supported in modern games, so it will only be useful in professional applications. And again, for most games 10gb of ram are enough for the foreseeable future, 24gb are only needed for some professional applications.

Not sure. If you want quiet, go with noctua fans. But they are brown and not rgb.

Don't worry, your build was good, i just like to optimise things and get the best price/performance components.
