5900x backordered until March of 2021

Preordered a 5900x at 8:05am on November 5th launch day and it was then put on back order, and I just got this email from B&H Photo. Am I really going to have to wait that long?

Update: I gave them a call and they said that they don't know how much they'll get in each shipment and they get shipments every 2 weeks from AMD so it is possible that they may ship more in later shipments.

Update 2:

I paid 550 plus tax, so yes, full price, but I won't be charged until it ships and I can cancel it anytime before then so I'll just wait until I if I can find it somewhere else sooner then I'll cancel my B&H order once it arrives from wherever I've potentially found it.

I'm upgrading from a i7 6800k to a ryzen 5900x because of framerate dips to 80 in apex and fortnite when I want a consistent 240fps.

Well, if they say so, then  you'll probably have to wait that long. I'd cancel my order if I was you.

To be honest, this is starting to become rather funny.

That is insane. You can still somewhat buy them here and from what the sites are telling is that they'll get a small shipment in next week and the week after of all amd cpu's but the 5800x as those are widely available.

I mean is it in my best interest to keep my place in line though? I cannot find them in stock anywhere else.

I guess it depends on what you paid.

It better be a good price.

I pre-ordered 5900x in 3 shops and picked up 5800x that was available immediately, but one of the shops claims it just sent me my 5900x, so i am happy.

Everything was 3:02 - 3:03 on launch day (it was launching 3pm here in Poland).

I find it hard to believe the 5900x will be back ordered till March. That either represents major demand, or major supply issues... or some variation of both

Not seeing how you need 12 cores for Apex and Fortnite, is what I mean.  More cores don't just automatically mean better performance like that.  You'd be fine with a 5600x.

Because I can afford it and I want mo' power baby.

Would get a 5950x if it was in stock and didn't have less framerate in some games than a 5900x.

And 5900x can be overclocked more than a 5600x I believe.
