BIOS Update (Ryzen 7 5800X)

Hey! I just ordered an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, and it's gonna arrive in a few days.

I'd like to know if I can do the BIOS Update for the 5000 series CPUs with or without the CPU, and how to do it. Thanks!

If your motherboard has bios flashback then you can do it without a CPU, if not you need a previous gen CPU. What motherboard do you have?

MSI B550-A Pro does have a Bios flashback button according to MSI's website. So yah just load up the new bios on a usb, plug it in, do the thing, and good to go.

I've never done it personally, but below a member named Digideath explained how to do it for another user. Was pretty good explanation so I've put it below.

What you do is you download the latest bios for your board. Extract that to a usb drive. Plug that drive in to the marked usb slot at the back io sheild ( if you are unsure what one, look in your motherboard manual ). Then press the bios button on the io sheild. It will update by itself.

Also make sure you have power on when you do this. Power from the mains. Don't try and turn the pc on just plug the usb drive at the back and press the bios button.

Seems you do have USB Bios flashback. So download the latest Bios that support Zen3 onto the USB, then follow the instructions in your included motherboard user manual.

For USB Bios flashback you do no need the CPU installed or the system powered on, I would perform the update prior to installing the CPU. Just read your motherboard manual.

How is it possible to do the USB bios flashback if you don't have your system powered on? Sorry for bothering you, I just can't find it in the user manual.

There is a button next to the IO with the power cables connected and the PSU on all you need to do is press and hold the flashback button for 3 seconds until the light next to it starts flashing. What you don't want to do is power the system normally using the power button.

Found this in page 46 of the manual

Quote

Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS Button

1. Please download the latest BIOS file that matches your motherboard model from the MSI® website.

2. Rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM, and save it to the root of your USB flash drive.

3. Connect the power supply to CPU_PWR1 and ATX_PWR1. (No need to install CPU and memory.)

4. Plug the USB flash drive that contains the MSI.ROM file into the Flash BIOS Port on the rear I/O panel.

5. Press the Flash BIOS Button to flash BIOS, and the LED starts flashing.

6. The LED will be turned off when the process is completed.
