Hello. Does anybody know why a PC can turn itself on randomly. That happened yesterday and today twice, and I really don't know what's causing this. I read about this on the internet and at first I thought that Windows 10 was fetching updates. So yesterday I updated Windows, but my PC turned on again today. I would like some help with that.

EDIT: I think I have fixed the issue. The 24-pin connector was a bit loose so I plugged it in all the way. Thank you guys for your help!

EDIT 2: Actually never mind. My PC once again booted itself.

EDIT 3: Also another weird thing happened right now. When I turned of my PC it wouldn't want to turn off. The display had no signal, but the fans and RGB lighting in my PC were still running. Normally the motherboard's lighting is always on, but not the whole system. Does anyone know about this. This didn't happen again. I had to turn it off by holding the button for like 3 seconds.

The first thing I'd check is your power button and the cable by simply disconnecting that.

It might be that theres a loose contact that's shorting from time to time, which would turn the PC on. If the issue persists after you disconnected that, then you know that this can't be the issue.

It could also be caused by the PSU or the PSU cables, that are also bridging contacts on their own, because of a loose contact.

I'd reconnect the 24-pin cable and if you got a spare PSU, change that out and see if the issue goes away.

Software issues seem rather unlikely and I also don't think it's caused by Wake on LAN, because that would usually require configuring bios settings to work properly, but check for it nontheless. (Wake on LAN is a setting which you can use to turn on devices by sending a request over the network)

Check your Network Adapters in the Device Manager under the Power Management setting for a box checked "Allow this device to wake the computer". Try unchecking it to see if that resolves your issue.

I also had an issue at one time where if I opened my laptop, my desktop would wake from sleep. I had to actually get my internet provider involved in that one as it turned out to be a router setting.

That's a good one! Did not think of that.

It could be that the 24-pin connector got loose since I tried to cable manage my PC a day before. I'll try to fix that if I can.

EDIT: Just quickly checked the connector from the top of my PC (my PC case has a removable dust filter) and I can see that the connector isn't completely plugged in. There is about a mm to 2mm space between the motherboard's connector and the cable.

Do this

Search for Command Prompt in the Start menu.

Right-click and press “Run as administrator”.

Run the following command: powercfg -lastwake.

Tell us what it says.

Ok, I'll do that if the PC turns itself on again. I have noticed that the 24-pin connector was a bit loose, like 1-2 mm, and pushed it in all the way. Before the PC was turning itself on randomly I tried to cable manage a bit and I guess I didn't plug the connector properly.

OK, I have turned off that setting on the Realtek PCIe family controller. I thought that it was just the 24-pin connector causing troubles, but I guess I was wrong. I'll let you guys know if the issue still remains in like a week, since the PC wouldn't boot on it's own for like 4 days until now.

Is your network card removable? I ask because you made the adjustment on a PCIe controller and not in the network adapters as shown below..

On the run on condition, is your BIOS power management settings set to S1 (POS) or S3 (STR)? Normally, S3 is the proper setting.

No it isn't. My motherboard came with 2,5Gb Ethernet. It also comes with WI-FI, but the setting was already turned of for it.

Also I'm not to sure if the BIOS power managment settings are set to S1 or S3, I'll probably go check that out.

Try turning off "allow scheduled maintenance" on control panel

Done that, but my PC booted itself on again. This time it happened when I slammed my drawer a little bit under my desk.

It's starting to sound like you have a mouse issue. I once had a wireless mouse that i swear would kick the computer on if you breathed on it. If i walked by the desk and grazed it or sit something on it, the mouse consistantly turned on the computer. Try swapping the mouse out.

It could be that. I also have a wireless mouse (specifically g305), and I usually don't turn it off, because it usually goes to sleep mode by itself. My PC turned itself on again in the same manner as previously and I have noticed that the mouse also woke up. I'll probably just turn off my mouse off when I'm not using it. Thanks!
