HP OMEN 17-an054na Ram Upgrade 2400 vs 2666 vs 3200

jj360

Hi

I have a HP OMEN 17-an054na (specs in link below) and want to upgrade the ram from 16gb to 32gb (16gb x 2). Does anyone know what the maximum RAM speed it will recognize/and whether there would be much difference between 2400MHz, 2666MHz and 3200MHz RAM?

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05574525

Also any preferences on what brand is best. Crucial, Corsair Vengeance, Kingston Hyper X?

Thanks

The i7-7700HQ is limited to running at max DDR4-2400.

You are better of just getting DDR4-2400 RAM, since the laptop motherboard will just drop the higher frequency RAM down to DDR4-2400.

Even if you buy DDR4-4000 or something.

That is, unless the laptop supports XMP or something -- though, highly doubt it.

That said, if the DDR4-2666 or DDR4-3000 kit is cheaper than the DDR4-2400 kit you are looking at, you could get it.

Again, it will just run at DDR4-2400.

Brand is user preference, nothing wrong with any of the big name RAM brands.

Most / all of them carry a *limited* lifetime warranty on RAM.

Thanks for reply. OK, Any preference on brand (Crucial, Corsair Vengeance, Kingston Hyper X) or are they all similar?

The Crucial kit is pretty cheap, but the memory timings / latency is CL17 .... pretty loose.

Overpaying the for the Corsair kit a bit there...

Out of the three, the Kingston would the be better than DDR4-2400 and CL14.

Or.....

G.Skill RipJaws 32GB (16GB X 2) DDR4-2400 CL16 for ~103
