Alienware Monitor with AMD 6800xt

Would my gsync monitor be compatible with the new AMD 6800xt? I don't use gsync with my current setup. After seeing the AMD announcement, it really made me wonder if i should or could use and AMD card with my monitor or if I would need to stick with waiting for a 3000 series card.

GSync is Nvidia's proprietary technology and is limited to Nvidia's GPUs. AMD uses Freesync which basically gives the same results but is open source. This means that Nvidia's GPUs can work on Freesync displays, but AMD's GPUs don't work on GSync displays. Because Nvidia is a bitch in this regard and doesn't like to share tech with other people.

If the monitor has both technologies implemented, then yes. If it only has GSync, then no.

Be patient.

I have the following monitor, it looks like I have to use a nvidia card only, is that correct?

That sucks. I was hoping I would have the option for the AMD 6800xt but I guess gifts of nvidia keeps on giving.

How about selling the monitor and buying a freesync one? also, why stress over gsync/freesync if you're not using the tech that's already built into the monitor you have and the GPU you own (GTX1080 in your signature) supports it?

Edit to clarify: GSync monitors are approx. 120$ more expensive than their non GSync versions, because that's how much the manufacturers need to pay to buy the modules from Nvidia. Maybe you could sell the display you own and use the money to buy a freesync one and get the AMD Gpu later? food for thought mayhaps...

Be patient.
