file size of a 4 minute song

Flac: around 40mb

Mp3: around 4mb

Mod (and similar): around 400kb or as low as 40kb

and i don't want mp3 since it's compressed, and flac+wav don't allow metadata, whereas mods and all the other formats do

Fair enough. For your case any big battery random android phone will do.

Budget: i'd like to spend the least possible, but maximum 250$

Necessary Requirements:

- Support for .mp3 .flac (or .wav) .mod .s3m .xm .it file formats

- 4+ Hours battery life

- 16GB of storage

Optional but highly wanted features:

- Support for .spc .vgm .nsf files, good midi sound

- 12+ hours battery life

- 120GB of storage and/or upgradable storage (example: sd card)

Get a different music player app? Xmp Mod Player seems to support it all.

But that is just the thing all those fancy audio players are multimediaplayers too. Like the phone option is the cheapest and well only option in your budget. If you don't want a phone get an ipod and an app on that for it.

Check out the devices Cowon has to offer - had several in the past and the audio is exceptional.

very odd, because the only "multimediaplayer" i have can play .mp3 and .wav

and that's it, it cannot do ANYTHING else.

no apps, no internet, nothing.

so how is it MULTImedia?

Yeah that's not what I'm talking about. There are no mp3 players in your budget that can play all the files you want so basically you have the option of getting a random android phone or an ipod touch and using and app that understands the files other than that there is nothing.

Why is it such a problem even? You can use a phone for just music. Don't connect it to the internet and boom it's just a mediaplayer device basically. You also don't need a sim if that is what worries you.

Go find one yourself then. If you're too lazy to check some product specs you're on your own.

Literally in the name. How is the ui unfriendly? It's just open an app and that is all you have to do.

well i prefer the ui of mine

ok then, it can do playback, that's great

but does it work with the screen turned off?

I suppose so it's just a music player would be weird if it wouldn't work that way. If you have a phone you can always try it out.

The app is basically that but you have a bigger screen. Just a list of music. With categories and a search function.

Odd never had any issue with it. I tried the mod player app and it works just like my regular music player app (pulsar) just is more function over form as this is made by some audiophiles I think :P. Any reason for all those needed filetypes? Can't just convert them?

Most "dedicated" music players are just android devices without the phone part nowadays.

Pretty certain you won't find any device that will play mods that isn't one and doing it through an app.

So yeah, any cheapo android phone.

I'd suggest find a used LG phone with Quad DAC.

Ryzen 5 3600 | Nvidia Quadro P400 | Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX | Klevv Bolt XR 2x8GB DDR4-3600 CL18

Acer Chromebook C720 @ GalliumOS
