Memory recommendation for ASUS Crossfire Hero III and AMD 5950x

HI,

 

My last build was a Pentium Pro.

 

Building a PC for 80% 3D and VFX work / 20% gaming.

  1. I would like 128GB of RAM (4x32) - Is it better to purchase all at once or can I but 64 (2x32) and purchase same at later date?
  2. Is there a sweet spot for pairing memory and new AMD 5950X?

Any changes to following? ( I'm purchasing the AMD 5950X)

With Ryzen the sweetspot has usually been 3200 or 3600 (matching frequency with your infinity fabric)

 

Not sure how that is changing with 5000 series - so I'd say wait till reviews come out, they should mention ram speeds.

artic freezer perform little beter than the nzxt one, but doe not look as good. yyou can get whatever you want out of those 2.

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

Gpu tier list. Rtx 3000 and RX 6000 not included since not so many reviews. Tier S for Water cooling. Tier A and B for overcloking. Tier C stock and Tier D avoid.

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)

1. do not mix kits if you want to apply XMP and never touch memory settings again

 

2. sweet spot in MHz is supposedly 4000, but with capacity this high it's unrealistic to run it that fast. Imo 3200 is enough, if you want more performance 3600Mhz is the next step up

If you want 128GB for Ryzen platform, then this kit would be ideal for you: G.Skill F4-3600C16Q-128GTZN. Four 32GB sticks 3600mhz CL16, optimized for AMD platform. I dont know if there is faster 128GB kit for AMD on the market

Just need to RAM for my build, (4x 32GB) Choice is down to G.Skill v Crucial.
