Mojang will soon start its transition of Minecraft: Java Edition Accounts to Microsoft Accounts

Do I have a logical reason to not like this transition? Eh, not really, or at least not one that I can clearly get across without sounding like an idiot. But am I happy about it? Fuck no. Zero reason for this imo. Not looking forward to this at all.

You may hate it, but one community that loves this change is the server/multiplayer community. Forcing everyone to move to Microsoft Accounts retroactively kills "altshops", or online storefronts where stolen Minecraft accounts are sold for pennies on the dollar. This allowed cheating with no consequences, because a theoretical ban would only set you back maybe 10 or 20 cents. Now a ban costs you $26.99, which will make the blatant cheating problem much better. You could theoretically convert all alts to MSA, but that would take forever, and most alts don't have email access so you can't even transition them.

 

For survival/singleplayer players, this won't matter. But for big servers like Hypixel and whoever is #2 right now, it's literally a gift everyone has been asking for.
