Hi,

I am forced to use Windows 10 for gaming with an Xbox One controller. I got tired of dual booting Linux and having to constantly switch OSes for when I want to game and work. So now I am trying to make Windows 10 useable because my laptop manufacturer doesn’t support any other OS than Windows 10. Is there a total system modification that completely changes how it works in terms of the UI? Or should I just give up trying to game on my gaming laptop and stick with Linux permanently, waste the GTX 1660 Ti I have in it and buy a PS4 and pay $120 per new game because I live in Australia?

I personally am still on Windows 7 because 10 blows. The only game I haven't been able to play so far is..uh...I can't actually find out what it was. But it was a recent AAA game that straight up says "This won't run on Windows 7". I just said 'lolk' and moved on with my life. I plan to go to linux after Windows 7 is finally done with. Why? Well, first, I actually like linux. True I mostly use it at the command line, but apparently the GUIs are coming a long way. Second, the games I do play will largely work under Linux or through WINE. Youtube has playthroughs of most AAA games, so there really isn't a reason for me to play them myself.

Odd. You make it sound like everyone games on Linux and that Windows is the odd one out that requires extensive tweaking. Games are made for Windows. You'll have no problem.

This may be surprise for you, but personalization possibility in Windows is huge. That means there is no some single magic universal hack or script that change all your settings, because everyone likes different ones. Every tool has own settings, control panel is huge and you can also install additional tools, like like Ultimate Windows Tweaker, to configure more hidden settings.

You'll be surprised how flexible Windows can be. At least compared to Linux. I was very disappointed when I trying to use Linux, when I look at configuration of programs or system itself. Small windows with 2 or 3 options and browsing many forums to discover how to change basic things using dozens of terminal commands and editing text configurations, was too much for me.

You're not asking any specific question in your posts. Once you ask what you actually want to do, or what is the effect you desire, people will be able to help you.

Again, nobody knows what exactly you want to change in the UI. "Completely changes how it works in terms of UI" is not an answerable question.

It's so easy to put smile to someone's post instead of answer it, isn't?

I give you example and some informations, but you just skip it.

So I give you different answer - for work you don't must tweak anything, just work. Your images (if you're graphics artist) will not be prettier if you change any settings, your music (if you're music composer) will not be better, no matter how do you change in your system. If you're writer, quality of your books (novels, articles) will not improve, no matter which text-editor you want to use and no matter what settings you want to change in your system. What else? Maybe you're programmer? So default settings will be very good for you - they're widely used, so your programs for sure will be tested on standard environment. Or maybe you want to tweak how windows looks like? No, I don't think so, because it's not FOR WORK at all (unless copying files is job description for anyone).

So, for work ANY settings will be the same good. And I agree - unless you write us what do you mean and what do you want to achieve - you'll get no answers.

And smiles on other people posts (people who wants to help) in your case means - you can't even proper express yourself. You don't get answer you want to get (or maybe you expected answer like "no, Windows is so bad, it's impossible, stay with Linux") unless you describe your problem so everyone can understand what do you mean.

Linux is superior to Windows in every way. Duh, everyone knows that. Where do we even start with what’s wrong with Windows 10? It’s not Windows 7 or 8.1. That’s what’s wrong with it. Incessant spying, an illogical start menu — why should anyone need to hover over an option to click it for example the documents, power button, who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to make someone need to wait in order to click the power button in order to shutdown. Update and shutdown? Give me a break. How about just shutdown? No way that’s too logical. Why is there a search bar next to the start menu? When searching in explorer is a feature of all Windows NT operating systems. Search for apps? How about select it in the start menu? Typing is faster, no the search box takes up room. Best part is if you want to open more programs than the taskbar can hold, instead of the search bar being a place for a program to appear, no collapse the entire list of programs. That’s the logical thing to do. Additional steps to do everything. Rearranging every aspect of the operating system which has been the same for over 30 years for “usability”. Fluid scrolling in apps? No way, make it as short and sharp as possible, stop the scroll wheel at the exact point where you don’t want it to be. Microsoft isn’t doing anything on your computer “we are doing so and so”, no you’re not. Windows is. Treating the end user like they are not smart enough to make their own decisions. Work is a valid question. Trying to do any real work is an exercise in annoyance, as Windows hates the user and wants to make it as difficult as possible so you just give up trying to work the way you want and just concede and let them steal your data, log your keystrokes, track your location, and just accept that this is the new normal and remember your place. 🤯

*** Thread locked ***

We are trying to keep this forum positive for all opinion and questions. If you actually want help and advice, using reactions to annoy other is not good way of doing it. The people replying to this thread are right. You have not made any actual questions. I don't personally use Linux, but from my experience on it, and the variations of it, there's even less one-switch or one settings screen ways to modify UI to suit ones needs.

So maybe think what is that you are after and make your questions like that. Since you are coming from Linux, you could use examples from Linux, with screenshots etc. There are enough people who have used both to know how to get things going on other.
