Audiophile Headphones

I would suggest spending about $200 or so on headphones, and the rest on a sound card or amp.

^^ Agreed no need to spend that kind of money on headphones ( in my opinion )

i only want to buy them because linus said they were good.

You can if you really want to but the DT770 are $200 less and are just as good especially for someone who's never had good headphones before so you probably won't even be able to tell the difference between the 2.

well, whats the difference between closed and open?

Closed doesn't leak sound and usually has more bass. Open leaks sound and usually has a wider sound stage.

Yes not a good way to generally shop. His music preferences and expectations may not fit you. He didn't like the Momentums but that didn't stop my from buying them. At such a high price try out different headphones and try and figure out what sound signature you prefer

I believe Amazon US have return policies (don't know how it works though)? Maybe get 2 or 3 types, test them, and return the ones you don't like. One thing I've learned from this forum is: audio is like food. Delicious to me, too spicy for others. In other words, hard to really judge which one is the right one for me, unless I really try it myself....

just get HE 400 or HD 600 with an o2 amp, bam you should be fine. HD 600 for clear mids and highs and HE 400 for bass.

apparently there is a new series from HIFIMAN coming, the i versions, they're supposed to have better headbands. just so you know.

-isolation (THIS IS THE PART I HATE MOST ABOUT CLOSED HEADPHONES BECAUSE THIS TYPE OF HEADPHONES MAKE A LOT OF PRESSURE ON YOUR HEAD)

Clamp force may have something to do with isolation, but not all closed headphones squeeze your head, my SRH440's certainly don't, especially compared to my Silverado's and M50's, and even my Sennheiser PC360, which is an open headset, based on the HD5x8 series. and the 440's have decent isolation.

Please tell me why.

It's the flavor of the week. I highly suggest you look elsewhere for headphones. You can almost grab he-500's for the price of those headphones and I can pretty much tell you those headphones are just like beats. (Overly crappy bass and terrible FR).
