Most approachable RTS for a 7 year old?

My 7 year old son shown interest in rts games. He seen me playing Warcraft 3, Age of Empires 2, CnC 3 and some others. I tried to play a little mind game with him, so i downloaded and played 10min of LOL and DOTa.

To see if maybe he finds more appealing. Thankfully he didn't like them. Kept saying, "no Dad, i wanna build an army and nuke their bases" I was playing NOD and China btw.

I mean, the choice should be obvious right, CNC, Generals or Red Alert. But i want to know, what were your first RTS experiences and what do you think is the easiest strategy out there.

Or possibly something like Sid Meir's Civilization (the early ones)

AoE 2 AI on lowest setting is pretty much brain dead.

 

He could always have fun with the cheat codes, I had when I was a kid.

NGL I learned so much history back then, like how Gandhi threatened to nuke the Brits if they didn't get out of India.
