Hi Hi

Quick question currently i have a 6700k processor with a gtx 1080, I want to upgrade to an rtx 3080. I run on 1440p 144hz monitors

I understand the 6700k will be a CPU bottleneck, but as I plan to upgrade my cpu in the next year, will the cpu bottleneck really be that significant for the time being?

What clock is the 6700K running, might only be minorish to moderate if it's clocked high

Yours faithfully

the cpu wont cause a big bottleneck at 1440p

if you overclock it, even better

whats you motherboard and psu?

@Lord Nicoll

Currently it's at 4.7 comfortably with good temps, I could experiment around to see if I could up it to 4.8

well, it will not allow you to fully make use of the 3080, but the overall performance should be better anyway when compared with the 1080.

@boggy77

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, although should still be significantly higher than the current

@HardStroke

Motherboard is an Asus z170 Pro Gaming and the PSU is corsair CS750M

In this case, it probably won't offer the full 144Hz but probably 60-100 depending on the game, maybe 144 is light and moderate games

Even my old 3930k can handle 100 FPS, he's not running a FX series :P

Ull be fine, there will ofc be a difference between ur system and say a 10900k, but it only becomes more apparent at higher FPS. At most ull be looking at a 15fps difference stock vs stock at 144hz target.  E.G u may get a 130FPS while a 10900k system could get 144.  Or u get 144fps but a 10900k could do 159fps.

There are plenty of benchmarks online u can look at for urself.

just look for 6700k vs 10900k or 10700k gaming benchmarks. They'll use the same GPU, what ever it is, which will show difference in FPS due to the CPU.

CPU: Intel i7 3930k w/OC & EK Supremacy EVO Block | Motherboard: Asus P9x79 Pro  | RAM: G.Skill 4x4 1866 CL9 | PSU: Seasonic Platinum 1000w Corsair RM 750w Gold (2021)|

@Lord Nicoll

Just done a quick OC check, I was able to hit 4.9, not entirely stable but I haven't been tweaking it fully, may be able to hit it, if not the 4.8 is very stable right now

@SolarNova

Honestly if i can get some improvements I'd be very happy, if even 14 behind a 10900k i'd be glad. If I can get 100'ish on cyberpunk 1440p I'd be real happy, high/ultra with the common sense settings lowered like extreme shadows/rendering

Most of my other games run at 60-80 medium/high, so high settings 100+ would definitely leave me happy with the purchase
