First build in 14yrs. Can't install windows

OhOneOne

Hi everyone.

Building my first pc in 14 years. Turns out I've lost my touch.

The physical build went ok, I managed to get into the BIOS, set the RAM to XMP so it runs at the correct speed. Temps all look fine in the bios.

I created a windows 10 home boot usb (using terminal on my Mac) and I set the boot order to that USB stick. The windows installer opened up the first time. I made my selections and then was presented with 3 'partitions' on which to install the OS. I selected the biggest one and it said not possible. I restarted and now I can't seem to get it to boot from the USB again.

MPG B550I GAMING EDGE WIFI (updated BIOS already via the flash bios USB port)

Ryzen 5 3600 w/ included wraith cooling

HyperX 32gb DDR4 3200 (HX432C16PB3K2/32) (made the mistake of buying incompatible RipJaws ram before)

Samsung MZ-N6E250BW 860 EVO M.2 250GB

RTX 2060 OC 6gb

BeQuiet 700W Pure Power 10 Modular

NZXT H210 Black Mini-ITX

Any advice on next steps would be great. And if I've made any glaring oversights please let me know.

I assume I might need to instal drivers for the M.2 drive? Is there a way to format the drive from the bios?

I'm a bit lost.

Thanks!

Did you accidentally try to install Windows on the USB-stick, thereby rendering it unbootable? The M.2 - drive shouldn't have any partitions in it at all, if it's a new, unused drive.

I don't think so. The USB drive is 64gb and I was pretty sure I clicked the drive that looked like 232gb or something close to that.

Could be the issue though, let me recreate the bootable USB and try again. Then at least we can eliminate that!

Thanks1

Omg it worked! I re created the bootable USB but with MBR? And I'm in.

Thank you! Not going to close this topic just yet as I have a feeling I'm going to run into some problems...

If you reach the installer and see three partitions again, post a photo here.

The more info you can give people, the better it is to try and help you get the right answer to the problem, and possibly faster too. If you ever run into a problem, take a screenshot if possible, or a photo if not.

https://getsharex.com is a great screenshot app for when you get windows installed BTW. It auto uploads so you can share it easily too.

Don't forget to either tag people, like in my sig... or quote the person you want to see that you've posted a response. If not they might not see it.

Glad you got it sorted :)
