Gaming room with custom dual pc case

Hi all! New to LTT and I thought i should share my current build with you all. I live in the northern sweden, but i will try write it all in english for you guys.

 

My partner and i are going to renovate our gaming room, and i was first thinking about building a desk pc like so many other have done. But then i got an idea, to build something that i havent seen before. Something unique apart from wall hung pc components, a step further then that.

 

This is my first custom built pc case and there have been some errors and wrong thinking along the way. I use solidworks for making the parts and everything is then lasercut. The idea with this project is to have minimal amounts of cables visible, and you are about to see how we solved it.

 

I want to apologize in advance for any bad pictures, im not a good photographer..

Well then, here are som pictures. I will continue to add more content along the way. Feel free to ask and let me know your thoughts, I will try to answer the best i can when i have time.

 

 

I started of drawing kinda how I wanted the case to look

 

When i was pleased with the case i marked it up on the wall to see where I shall cut the grooves for the electrical hose (yes, this room totally needed renovation xD)

 

Grooves and holes cut. 50mm Electrical hose. The window is to be removed.

 

Put up some drywall. Total mess

 

Paint it black . Also new floor.

 

Ordered some photo wallpaper. We both enjoy playing diablo so that was ofcourse our first choice. Too bad there isnt very good wallpapers for diablo 4 out yet, but we are pleased with these.

 

Continued with making the desktop itself.

 

Think this will do just fine. Even a place for our doggo.

 

And here we got the main shell, it measures 600x1400mm. 

 

Made some mounting plates for the motherboard, with a distance to hide cables behind.

 

Could not wait to try and hang it on the wall for the first time. 

 

Made some more parts, laser cut ofcourse.

 

Welded in. Thought it would be good to add more fans in the middle of the case. These fans will push the air Down and up through the "shelf" pushing the hot air from the Power supplies.

 

Needed to drill some holes for the recently added fan mount. X marks the spot..

 

I think it came out pretty nice.

 

Mounted up 2 old motherboards i got laying around to see where to cut holes for the I/O plates

 

One hole cut, this was a pain i the rear to cut out afterwards..

 

Other hole also cut, didnt got the i/o plate left for this one.

Alright, Let's continue.

 

So i finished up my welds and sent the case for powdercoating, Barely fits in the car when you got other hobbies too..the fabric that once was glued have come loose so it looks like crap right now. But let's focus on the case instead

 

Got it painted the same day, came out great

 

I decided to make new motherboard plates so i could get lasercut grooves and holes for the wiring

 

I noticed that i havent taken any pictures of these new motherboard mounting plates that i made, sorry for that. Here is one though, had already bent up the mountings for the riser cable and gpu and begun screw down the spacer bolts for the motherboard.

 

Fitted an old board to check the cable length of the riser cable.

 

First test mount

Realised i needed to do a cutout for the riser cable as it was very tight between the plate and the case itself. So here i have done that on both. Notice that they look slightly different because the gpu is inverted on one of them to get the display cables out the side and not in to the middle of the case.

 

 

Here's how the riser cable will be. Also added a plate to hold the cable down so it would look nice going up to the motherboard

 

Sanded them smooth and sent them to be painted. Looks nice

 

Installed my partners components first as she wasn't in need of it as i was for drawing parts. Notice that I've also installed the plate that covers the "shelf" where the psu and all the cables are located.

 

Thought it was about time to throw in my components aswell, here's where I noticed a small error.. 

 

Did you see it? Well, yes..my gpu is higher up. 25mm to be exactly

 

This is kinda where we at today. I have already fixed a new plate for my side which lowers my gpu by 25mm, but that will be covered in the next post.

Wow! That's some craftsmanship there. Not sure what the PC specs are but they seem to have undergone an upgrade in the later pics! Are you going to upgrade the stock CPU coolers or is there no overclocking required and therefore keeping them as-is?

Thank you! In the earlier pics i used old  motherboards just to see how everything fits, i can write down the specs in the upcoming post, or maybe edit the first one. but our plan is to buy new components so we got identical setups, sometime in the future the plan is also to make everything watercooled, so yes. The stock coolers will be exchanged

Yeah it would theres room for 3x 140x420mm radiators, and there will be a total of 4 cylindrical containers, 2 on each side of the motherboards

This is interesting.

I've often thought it would be cool to make a custom case.

Make it look like some kind of equipment in the background of that old game doom 3.  I know that is going way back lol.  

I used to look at some of those machines though in the backgrounds of that game and wish I had a custom case that looked like it.

Some of those machines and consoles just looked cool to me.

Your work makes me think I might be able to really do it someday.

Just go for it! This is my very first custom build, and yes there have been some errors and wrong thinking along the way, but thats things you just got to take when building something from scratch, especially when its your first time building. Just fix the errors and move on with the build.

 

 I totally think you should try to make your wish come true, and i look forward to follow your build!

Time for a small update! Have been busy repairing cars and renovating our home, but finally got some time to make some progress on the build :)

 

Used large washers that I cut in half and then made jigs to drill and weld them onto the small vents. This was also done to the big vents buuuuut i didnt take a photo of it in the jig, sorry.. 

 

 

Welded the vent for the PSU bracket and bent the mounting pin to the right position 

 

 

Prepped the third (...) mounting plate for the motherboard.. this time the GPU is level with the other. Here you can also see the big vents i was talking about 

 

 

 

Sent them to be painted, and here they are.

 

 

 

I ran out of screws so i had to borrow some from other parts while waiting for them to arrive. But here one of the PSU mount and 2 big vents are in place.

 

 

Had to order longer SATA cables.. 0.5m is very short in this case . Just ignore the cables flying wild, needed some files. 

 

 

And that is where we are today. Going to fasten everything when the screws arrive and put the cables as they should be when the 1m cables arrive.

Hey all!

 

Been having a brake from this build for a while now, but here is a small update!

 

Bought a couple of fans to lighten things up, went with Corsairs QL series as they are very silent for having RGB. 

 

Unfortunately the cable for the last fan was too short and i had to order an extension cable, I thought about cutting and extend it myself but i didn't feel like doing it on such an expensive fan. Just gotta wait for that extension cable to arrive.

 

I have also ordered the tempered glass for the front and they said it should be about 3 weeks delivery time.  So i guess you'll see another update in a few weeks

I guess its time for an update :).

 

Ordered some fan controls, mostly so that I can run all the fans on the lowest rpm possible.  But also to remove unnecessary cables on the motherboard.

 

Also ordered some screws, boxes and washers for the tempered glass. Also got some arcade buttons that didn't get on picture.

 

And here's what the boxes are for. Didn't have enough cable for the reset button. Future will tell if it ever gets connected or if I replace it with usb connectors.

 

turned out OK. Placed it in the corner of the cutout underneath the desk.

 

And here we are with the whole build, the extension cable arrived for the fan and the tempered glass is mounted and it was a pain in the rear to get some decent pictures. But I managed to get a few after 50+ pics.. Enjoy

 

 

Unfortunately, this build will not get any updates in a while. Mostly due to the extreme lack of components we have these days, but I also got a lot to do on the house this summer. I may update with some pictures or something small, we'll see :). 

 

In future updates we'll be going to put together some watercooling, along with new components ofcourse.
