This my recent experience with having to install Windows 10 so I can use DAZ3D but just couldn't this be, quicker to update instead of taking forever to do this on shutdown and startup? How come I can't create Local Accounts instead of having to do an Online Microsoft one when installing?

Note I'm sticking with Linux and only use Windows for such stuff like DAZ3D and other things. I sure don't miss Windows at all when I went completely Linux for the last five years.

you can use local, there is a small notate at the bottom that says skip this step for now.

I didn't even notice... But why not do local first, and then ask if the people using Windows want a Microsoft Account instead?

IMHO this has to do with Windows being preinstalled on most people's Computers and not obtained and installed manually by the User himself. Given that most Users never installed an OS before or had to, Microsoft doesn't have to make this easy nor quick, now do they?

Windows changed that in a recent update to make it even more of a pain in the ass to do. It's still possible, but it will only let you create a local account if it doesn't detect a network. If it detects a network then it won't give you the option for an offline account and it won't let you proceed with the install unless you connect to the network and use a microsoft account.

I had to recently reinstall windows on a laptop and I didn't disconnect the wifi card from the laptop and it detected wifi networks so I couldn't create an offline account and it wouldn't let me proceed without connecting to a network and creating a Microsoft account. It wouldn't even let me go back in the setup process I either had to make an online account or scrap the install and start over. I ended up just doing an online account for the setup and then once in windows creating a new offline user account and then deleting the microsoft account.

Because Microsoft is trying to push everyone towards their shitty services.

Crap such as this is why I rather use Linux and avoid using Windows at all, if I don't have to.

Wrong Subject... This Topic is about crap that shouldn't be in Windows in the first place and should removed. Not Cars vs Horses...

Why crap? Someone can say that lot of things inside your modern car is a crap that shouldn't be there. I though that my analogy was clear.

I can kind of understand them making you create the online account because isn't using an apple pc kind of the same thing?

They kind of want to own your whole world.  I can't blame them for not giving up all that data money and trying to move a person to be all in on their exclusive cloud of everything product line.

It's the profit for them.

On the other hand I kind of understand you being annoyed.

I'd love it too if my home computer and OS was more of a Free agent made of good old fashioned real hardware lol.

Myself I wouldn't care so much about it if they would just have more concern about what home users like and what we want in the ( however you want to say it ) Windows OS design, gui, features.

I feel ya dude.

The reality is though that it is their OS universe and we don't get a vote. 🥴

Sad but True... However it is a lot easier to move to and use other platforms besides Apple and Microsoft... Well FOSS ones such as UNIX like OSes like BSD and Linux. Oh wait, there is AmigaOS but that requires money and buying PowerPC hardware....

I think they just have to make a deal with one of the big prebuilt companies and make the OS super easy for the I don't know anything average home user. With a very likeable and pretty gui on top. Then throw in all the stuff people want in design and looks that windows never does. When that day comes I'd guess they might become a big competitor in stores everywhere.

Well here in the US, you are not going to see Big Box stores carry Linux preinstalled computers. Not that it hasn't been tried before. Walmart did sell some low end rigs using Via CPUs with Linux back in the early 2000's. They had some Silly Distro that attempted to Look and Feel like Windows. but... Even set to single user mode....

Lindows I think it was called at the time:

You're talking about what people want or need, but you're talking from your perspective. And you're not majority of computer users. You are more like power users and it's only about 5% or less. Most of people like when their phones update everything and keep their settings even when their switch device. The same about computers - they become more and more user friendly and that means they must be more and more annoying for power users who likes to control everything and knows how to do everything.

Another way is to just enter you account name and password instead of your Microsoft account.

If you have Microsoft account, then the OS can get you started with all your previous or other computer setup environment. (options, wallpaper, etc. including Mail, Calendar, OneDrive, and log you in to all other Microsoft service s to help you get started). If it is a license that was purchased, or upgrade d, it can pull the license stored on MS servers and activate the OS for you. A lot of little conviences.

It's just forums like this where people talk about this unproportionally (for whatever reason is beyond me) in the real world nobody knows what Linux is or how to use it... It's primarily a server OS and as such absolutely, completely unsuitable for 'home use' and will always be. Especially as long Microsoft Windows exists as it dominates the market overwhelmingly.

So do not worry about it, it's probably not gonna happen in our lifetime or ever. :)

They do, but this keeps coming up (since the day win 10 came out)

Yea they try to trick the user, but you do not need a ms account to use / log into windows, never had and probably never will... Also AFAIK you can be online, there's just a small choice option a lot of people miss... I seriously doubt they changed this recently, because as I said it keeps coming up regularly and whenever I check it did *not* change (I forgot how the option was called but I can't imagine it now actually missing... I remember there was a rather hilarious thread about exactly this on here last year, with the exact same 'issue')

Gonna try to find it, mostly because I can't remember how the option was called... lol

PS: yes it could be 'skip' and who knows maybe they really did remove that... I was unable to set up my Samsung phone without an internet connection recently, which all things considered is also pretty hilarious, if there's a  workaround I'm unaware of it...

Maybe Microsoft thought "if Samsung / Android can get away with it so do we!"

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
