50c idle temp 10850k

Try stress testing the CPU. If temperatures remain normal under load, than the higher idle temps shouldn't be that much of a concern.

Generally speaking load temps is what matter the most.

What would be a good platform to stress test?  I just built this pc after so many years of being out of the computer game.

In addition to this, your "idle" temps are not idle temps. Looking at those numbers, it seems that you are in a high performance power state, or you have speed step disabled, and you may have c-states disabled, or all of the above. All of these will increase your idle power draw and increase your idle temperatures.

You can use AIDA64. It tells you everything you need to know about the cpu, and you cna choose what and what not to stress.

I usually just use cinebench R15 or R20. Sometimes Prime95, but not usually.

Ahh... I don't really know what c-states or speed step is...  Other than a basic google search, if you know of a good direction for literature.  I ran cinebench r15 (says windows 8 but  I have 10) and the cpu package maxed at 70 c then quickly dropped back down to 50/54c after test.

OK I fixed it.  Thanks to HairlessMonkeyBoy.  Under my windows power options I was in an Ultimate Performance plan somehow.  Switched it to balanced and package temp jumped to 32c.  Thanks everyone!
