Hey guys, just took my whole pc apart to update some stuff in my setup.

Put everything back together, turned it on and it boots into BIOS, but doesn't boot into Windows. It doesn't recognize any of my SATA disks (1 SSD and 2 HDD's).

Previously everything worked fine. Same Mobo, same cables. I tried other ports and other power cables but nothing works. Suggestions?

You should definetly start by unplugging and plugging back in all the cables running to and fro the drives, mobo, and psu, as it's possible something simply isn't making contact.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, try one drive at a time and see if you can get any of them to recognize.

What exactly did you update? it's possible a seemingly unrelated piece of hardware is causing some kink in the system and this is one manifestation of that. If you replaced cpu, ram, or gpu, try putting the old one back in.

It also may be worth plugging the drive into another working system if you have one.

An external usb to sata 3 cable can be used here if you only have a laptop available, though some drives will still need a power cable from a psu.

I upgraded my PSU and CPU. Don't don't care the hard drives right now. Just the SSD with windows. Tried again multiple ports/cables.

PSU and CPU seem to be working fine, but I'll unplug everything one more time.

I'll try to plug the drive in my laptop, see if it pops up. I'll also update bios + ssd driver.

Checked already the boot up and sata mode, that's also not helping.

You should (if possible) try the drives in another working system before you make yourself take teh whole thing apart again for something like a cpu swap.

But it's weird. I used the same mobo and everything suddenly it doesn't work anymore. How can a cpu change mess all of that up

Are the drives showing up under BOOT tab?

If so you may just need to set the boot device again, probably because of cable swap.

sometimes a change in hardware prompts re-configurations to the bios, sometimes the harwaare is faulty, tehre are a lot of stupid things that can pop up.

but, you mentioned changing the psu, and that is the first place id guess that problems will stem from. Anytime you change cables/ports, its quite common for things to not seat properly, or for the copper/gold contacts to not... well... make contact. its usually a good place to start. Its's also possible for teh power ports on the psu to be faulty in some way, or for the power cables to be faulty in some way.

definetly a substantial possibility, it may be that your boot drive (ssd) has ended up on a port that was previously an HDD, and conversely, there is now a storage drive where your boot drive was, so teh bios is looking for a windows install on a drive that doesn't have one.

I unplugged all hard drives. So only SSD is now plugged in. Would you suggest I try all different ports?

i would, yes. it should only take a few minutes to try the 6 or 8 ports.

make sure to shut down before unplugging &c.

Alright I'll try again tomorrow. Replug everything. Update the rest and I'll let you know how it went. If I plug the SSd in my laptop it is not recognized but it does give that "recognised" sound in windows.

If I check system status, it doesn't recognize anything.

I'd try another cable from the PSU also.

yep, technology has its dark sides.

Update, it didn't work. I checked all the ports. Made sure all the plugs are in.

Didn't unplug all of them because some are so tight that I'm tearing half my mobo apart if I try to remove them.

Didn't flash bios yet, because I haven't done it before. I'll just keep asking and searching

I'll keep it short. Upgraded my rig to a new PSU (Corsair), and replaced my CPU (Intel). Put everything back together and now it doesn't recognize my SSD. Tried different power and Sata cables, tried all the SATA ports and even one of those usb 3.0 cables. It recognizes the cable but not the device. If I plug USB 3.0 with windows booth it does recognize that.

I made sure all PSU cables are connected. Tried different modes in BIOS

Optimizes defaults also not working. Mobo is Z97 Mpower Max. Everything was working fine before the upgrade.

Was thinking about flashing the bios or maybe driver update via my laptop. But I have never done flashing or driver update via USB so no idea how that works.
