Is 8GB vram futureproof?

Is it? RTX3070 will have perfomance of RTX2080Ti but it only has 8GB of VRAM, would it be a good purchase for the next 3+ years?

depends on the resolution you play at... 1440p it will be fine, but 4k AAA titles will max out the VRAM without dropping settings down abit to compensate.

It really depends on the game you're playing and the resolution. Nvidia claims that current games on ultra settings with high-res texture packs only use around 6gb's of Vram at 4k. GN Steve also says that 8ish should be fine. People get freaked out because they see how much memory games allocate not realizing that the game isn't actively using a good amount of the allocated memory.

What you mean 3 years = joke? I will not buy gpu every 2 years... I'm asking would it be enough for more than 3 years. Big map games could top up vram quickly, and soon 4K will be the new standart.

1440p is enough in 3 years, more than that i don't know.

but for 4k, it's definitely not enough. In the future more game will have native 4k textures, meaning it's gonna be big even if you're playing on 1080p.

That's ancient lol. I apologize for my complaint. I wanna upgrade but in reality I don't game anymore, and basically use my pc as a web browser. I just have a ton of chrome tabs open 24/7 with work.

Pretty much the reason why I held off even upgrading to a RX 580. All of my time is spent on school and probably work once I graduate. Any spare time I have left and it's probably just going to be spent mostly on YouTube and Netflix haahaha

if you are just doing 1080p or 1440p you should be fine (vram wise not it being severely outperformed by future generations)

Eh, barely. My 3GB cards can't take max textures in a good few games. And a few bigger AAA games will use well over that, up to 7-7.5GB even at 1080p, if you want to run max textures (in some games there isn't a noticeable difference between ultra and medium textures, in others it's noticeable). I'd say 6GB is a much better middle ground (the vast majority of games do not use over this), 8GB is more comfortable.

1080p? Yes, plenty beyond any sort of reasoning. 1440p? Likely to pose a few issues. 4k? No. Not a chance.

No it isn't. Not by a LONG shot. I can name several games right now that actively gobble up more than 3.5GB of Vram. Even 6GB is not enough for 1080p. Maximum details requires a bit more than people think it does.

 

Space Engineers, ARK, Subnautica, BATTLETECH, MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries, DOOM Eternal, Middle Earth: Shadow of War, Satisfactory, 7 Days To Die, the list goes on. Every game listed here, and only one is a truly popular game, gobbles up every drop of memory from my 1070 and I noticed that much too.

Yeah I graduated in August and am still working my student worker job. Luckily, my college allows up to 6 months after graduation to find a real job.

Techdeals also doesn't actually use repeatable benchmarks, which is bad for testing. His numbers are often waaay off from the mark in comparison to any other techtuber.

 

Ultra Details is not just for screenshots. Every game mentioned in my list has a staggering difference between High and Ultra settings for Texture Quality. If you think I'm lying, look at Mechwarrior 5 High and then Maximum and tell me there's not a crazy difference visually.
