Is anybody happy with their i9 10900k CPU. I feel like this CPU is overrated, thinking of switching to Ryzen?

I mean yeah you might get better performance switching to Ryzen... but obviously you'd then have to buy a new board, and you probably can't return the i9 or the Intel board, so unless the i9 is somehow not powerful enough for your workflow... what's the point??

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

I mean i can return it to microcenter with my motherboard

What. even if you've opened the box, installed it in the board, added your thermal paste and cooler, booted the system, used it for a while, decided it's not good enough, dissassembled the computer and taken the CPU out of the board, despite the chip not being broken?

In what way?  What is so disappointing about the i9? 

 

Things open slower?

 

Lower FPS in games?

 

Takes longer in Blender, Adobe and Solidworks?

imo the i9 runs too hot and offers miniscule tangible benefits over the lesser skus for me to consider being "happy" with one

I don't think you understand what you're basing performance off of. Just saying "I think I had a better time with x" Doesn't mean anything.

 

Explain what is wrong, and tell us how you measured what was wrong.
