Hi all,

After the release of the RTX 3080/90 and the design issues with 3rd party cards, I wonder if I should hold out until feb to buy the RTX 3070 or perhaps the ti variant if it comes to fruition?

I was originally going to try and buy the GPU on the 15th of oct before I buy the rest of my pc in Feb, just so I could secure myself a 3000 series card. But now Im not sure.....

I think it could be a good idea to wait so that most bugs etc have been found but then I worry about stock, do you think stock in Feb would still be a problem?

Thanks for the help,

Stay safe,

Lex

I would personally wait

1) for stock to be readily available, I don't like fighting just to get a GPU

2) for Nvidia/AIB to address the crashing issue, see what's the official statement and whether it's fully fixed or not

3) for reviews of AIB cards to come out to determine which GPU is the best designed for the price

As for stock in Feb, no one knows but I would be surprised if its still a problem by then.

Unless people keeps buying from scalpers, fueling their scalping behavior

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

No need for ending btw.

The ti variant is very likely to come to fruition if AIBs have already gotten wind of it. (Specifically Galax), and it isn't about the bugs, those get stamped out in under 2 months most of the time, but the longer you wait, the more that is manufactured, the more supply there is, and there are less scalpers. Unless the 3070 has as much demand as is expected, but that is lasts through Feb, then you are screwed when it comes to availability and price, but also the longer you wait more AIB variants of each card will come out and there will be many more options to choose from. (Unless to many options=overchoice/anxiety for you)

Or the 3070 isn't going to be manufactured as much to create a artificial supply shortage, so it would be like the Switch, where even 3+ years after is launch it is extremely hard to find in stores bc the scalpers pick them all up to flip on ebay. With such a low MSRP it will be even easier to scalp. That has supposedly already happened to the 3080 FE, specifically the coolers.

Also RDNA 2, so if you are open minded about your GPU of choice don't forget that AMD has cards out before Feb that could cause a price decrease.

Actually that was just a bunch of my theories, except for the last bit, RDNA 2 is promising and I really want to see what they bring to combat the 3070.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500
