So originally i was using Private Internet Access off Linus's recommendation and when they were bought out i switched to ExpressVPN on the recommendation of a few websites but connection speed has dwindled, i'm on a 500mb fibre cable connection and manage between 71-72mb/s downloads without a VPN now with ExpressVPN im only managing around 9mb/s download across the board.

So i'm just wondering what people are now recommending and using themselves.

Thanks.

VPN is slow, you are dependent with the load of the server.

If the load is low, maybe the toll is not great, but if it's full, you gonna suck big time.

So if the server is 9mbps you gonna get 9, whatever your ISP speed is.

For general browsing only you should avoid VPN, there's no benefit other than unblock country restrictions.

i use nordvpn and most of the time i dont notice that much slowdown, specially on download. now that depends on what server you connect to and what protocal you use.

i use NordLynx (wireguard from nord) and its great. so highly recommend you get nordvpn. the only down side is max 6 devices per account.

I personally use Nord and have never had any issues. I know there was that security issue awhile back with a compromised server but tbh I had paid for a 3 year sub and didn't want to waste what I already paid. I normally get around 52mb/s download where I live (Australia) and with VPN on I normally drop to about 46 to 48mb/s. If you are going to get Nord then have a look around for a good deal. I know when I paid for my 3 year sub awhile back I got a great deal, I found a cash back offer and only ended up paying like $60 for 3 years so like 60 cents a month (USD that is).

highly disagree. vpn is dependent on what server you connect to and the protocal, and how far it is.  in this day and age, you should always use vpn.

well the compromise was on their side. while yes they handled the press poorly, atleast they took care of it fast and did better auditing, unlike some other "vpns".  this is my4th year, and i just got another 3year plan.

No, you're just buying to the bullshit.

The www is already secured if you use HTTPS / SSL.

With SSL your connection between your browser and the website is already encrypted.

Why don't you test your speed with VPN and without.

Not all servers have the same speed, even if it's near to you, even if it has advance protocol, bla bla bla, once the server flooded, it will tank.

dude in US at least, your ISP sells your data and can basically throttle the shit out of you and see what you do and dont. HTTPS is a joke. i do test my speed with and without vpn, i get 5-15% down depending on if i use double vpn.  yes not all servers are the same speed and that depends on what service you use. that doesnt make it true for every provider. and besides , in US some isp can throttle your connection if its encrypted; i havent had that problem yet so cant comment on that. welcome to

modern world.

How? All of your connection is HTTPS, including this website. Its encrypted from end to end.

Yes they will know where you gonna go, but they cannot get inside your stream.

Please read more about https, you're making false accusations with no proof.

Using a VPN isn't just about privacy, but regardless potentially the OP may want to torrent, I know without a VPN I have been sent those nasty you could be sued letters through my ISP, but since using a VPN that doesn't happen. I also use a VPN to get around georestrictions as Aussie Netflix is pretty bad. I also use a VPN on my phone as it blocks all the ads that free to play games like to spam at you. At the end of the day I don't think anything we do is completely private and it is up to each individual as to what is "safe enough". This is a safe space please don't get into arguments, constructive debates are fine. Just remember WWLD (What would Linus do) hehe.
