Start from scratch. Nothing in there is worthy of being paired with a 3080.

Ouch...that's a bit harsh.

If you choose to do a new build you can take the RAM and storage out of that PC and sell the other parts individually/as a bundle.

Thing is, from the images it looks pretty cramped in there and the 3080 is a big card.

It's not. It's objective truth. OP would need a new CPU, new RAM, new motherboard and a new PSU. Which is an entirely new system.

I don't mean that the prebuild system is bad; it is just that nothing in that system is unsuitable for the purpose of being paired with a 3080.

It's not a bad system, so you don't have to sell it if you have another use for it. But don't try to plop a 3080 in it, because everything will need to be changed out, so you're better off starting from scratch.

It's not about what's true, so much as how you say it.

I do agree with you, however, that a 3080 is unrealistic in that box.

If you're going to use that 3080 for any resolution other than 4K, then a CPU (+ motherboard) upgrade would be very much beneficial.

For 4K though it'll probably work fine.

You will 100% need a new PSU. Something like a Corsair RM850x or any high quality 750-850W PSU.

Case airflow might be a concern looking at your current PC.

You don't need a whole new system I don't think (assuming you'll be using it for 4K).

If you don't care about playing the latest games at 1440p 144Hz or 1080p 240Hz then you don't need a 3080.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

If what you're interested in is indeed 1080p 240hz, then you're going to need an i5-10600K or i9-10900K + RTX 3080 for the actual best gaming experience.

That's a pretty big upgrade though. You'd need this (you can keep your RAM).

This + 3080 will give you basically the best 1080p/240Hz setup you can have, that's not unreasonably costed. You can probably keep your RAM, and possibly your case.

The problem is this goes up to $1400 once you consider the additional cost of buying an AIB 3080, so it's not ideal.

You could grab this + a 3070, but we need to see how well that performs before I can recommend it. The 3070 is set to cost $200 less.

Alternatively you could look for a used GTX 1080 Ti + PSU  and spend around $500 for what will still be a very substantial upgrade.

What games do you plan to play?
