What do you want to do with your PC? What apps do you plan on using? What games do you plan on playing? Do you have peripherals and a monitor? What resolution and target fps for gaming?

I'm assuming OP is American, even though this is a Canadian forum. No other country calls their currency just "dollars" when talking with international people. Still really vague.

North America doesn't put the $ after the number. It comes before.

They never said "dollar". They just used the dollar sign.

Which is used by more countries than just the US. (Including Canada!)

Quote

All the Dollar Symbols in the World

The dollar symbol, $, is perhaps the most recognizable in the world, and is used by more than twenty currencies around the globe, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Hong Kong. The word dollar can be traced back to Bohemia in the 16th century, when people used it to describe money in many places throughout Europe, including Spain.

Some other countries that use the dollar symbol, $, in some form include Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Fiji, Liberia, Namibia, Singapore, along with several others.

As indicated above, a letter or series of letters is often added before or after the dollar symbol to help specify what currency is being discussed. For example, Z$ is for Zimbabwe dollars, and $U is Uruguay dollars.

Technically, we often put the dollar sign AFTER the price here in Quebec.

For example:

https://www.thesource.ca/fr-ca/ordinateurs-et-tablettes/ordinateurs-portables/tous-les-portables/c/scc-1-2-1?categoryCode=scc-1-2-1&view=grid&page=0&sort=relevance

Putting it before the price seems to be an English thing.

It is however common to just use the symbol without specifying USD because USD is used as a currency in most 3rd world countries because it is much more liquid than the local commodity currencies. I still think it's worth specifying everey time, but people do use it that way.

Well judging by the budget, grammar, profile picture, and this obviously being OP's first PC, I'd say OP is a child and it's a reasonable mistake. I used to do it all the time when I was a kid too.

for the cents?

Because in French, unlike the rest of Canada, we don't put commas in bigger numbers

1,299.99 is just 1 299,99

If you ask me, you're the weird ones for putting a comma every 3 numbers. 🤷‍♂️

It's a language thing, not a region thing. Most European languages other than English use comma for decimal and period for thousand.
